were destroyed. The loss is $220,000.
Councilman Christian S;iecht horse

At Brooklyn William T. Whitehoiise,
a well-known broker, shut himself at

straight to the hotel and killed himself.

The black diphtheria is spreading nt an

fourteen persons having died of the dis
ease. Une family of ten lost six mem
bers. Tlie place has just been quaran
tined. A terrible state of affairs exists.
