An Appeal for tlie email Favor of Ton'
Thousand dollars.
Washixqtos C. H., O., Dec. 0. —The
following letter was banded a reporter
by a gentleman who is’ a friend of Bus-
sell Sige’n private-secretary, and it may
give'sotueolewtq the attempted assas
sination of that millionaire:
"Russell Saee:
"Dear Sib:—Can yon give me a situ
ation so I can make something? Try
me and see what I can do. Nothing in
the west.
"I have to say in addressing yon on
the eabject of giving, of which you are
reported to he extraordinarily liberal,
that this kind of patrimonions liberality
will undoubtedly enroll your name on
the highest scroll of honor, and live as
long as the memory of man lasts. Snch
sn individual can never die. Hie mem
oir ie always green. He livee perpetu
ally in the minds of men, when men
like Grant and Vanderbilt are dead and
entirely forgotten. Could you extend
this patrimonions liberality to me? If
so, I will expend it in a farm, fix it up,
and let you know, eo you can see how
it hae gone. Ten or twelve thonaand
dollars is a mere trifle to yon. It is an
extraordinary gratuity, nnd it is an ex
traordinary man capable of making it."
Strut. Phenomena.
Louisville, Dec. 9.—Dr. Martin F.
Coomes, a physician of high standing
here, has made a report in the case of
Mary Stockenberg, the woman on whose
person nre exhibited every Friday the
marks of the crucifixion.' He carefully
observed the phenomena. He can not
account for the appearance of the
marks, but be believes them of natural
origin. He saw the spots in the wo
man's hsnds appear, bleed and disap
pear; also be observed the msrhs of the
cross on her brow and on her shoulder.
The investigations will be continued.
Other physicians made observations, al
though not so extended at the time,
with Dr. Coomes, and concnr in his re
port.
