While.
/ Americus' new artesian well is go
ing to cost the city a pretty penny,
but a flowing well will be worth the
expense incurred should the contrac
tors finally strike a bold stream./This
latest well was begun several ljflonths
ago and is now down a depth of
more than one thusand feet. Many
obstacles have been encountered, but
these have in time been overcome
and the boring continued. It is said
that the well has cost the city al
ready something like nine thousand
dollars, and this expense bill may be
considerably increased ere a flow
ing stream of sufficient capacity is
encountered. Several small streams
have been penetrated and passed by,
the flow of water not being deemed
sufficient.

PROHIBIT DUSTING
ABOARD TRAINS
Georgia Roads Might Adopt
Pennsylvania Law.
The Times-Recorder has called at
tention to the recent ruling of the
Pennsylvania Health Board, prohibit
ing the raising of unnecessary dust
by porters and other employes on
railroad trains. A similar rule would
not be unappropriate in Georgia. On
the Seaboard day train, especially, the
porters seem to have an especial de
light of continually keeping the dust
in circulation by sweeping the aisles,
and dusting the seats and window
sills. The result is very objectionable
when the practice is persisted in every
few minutes. Other roads, too, are
not without room for reform in this
respect. '
SNAKE IN PUPPY BED

Big Rattler Takes Up Abode
With Dogs.
Mr. Ben Dupree, living near Am
ericus, killed a big rattlesnake yes
terday which had taken up its abode
with a litter of young puppies under
his barn. While the old mother dog
was out hustling for rations the
snake got into the bed of pups and
defied ejectment when she returned.
Mr. Dupree heard the wails of the
old dog and finding the cause of the
trouble he shot the rattler.
