PROHIS WILL KEEP AT WORK
Georgia Anti-Saloon League Meets in Atlanta in De
cember.
ATLANTA, Sept. 27.—(Special.)
The state convention of the Anti-
Saloon League will be held in this
city in December. It is the belief
that it will be one of the most not
able gatherings ever held in Geor
gia of temperance workers, and that
steps will be taken then looking tow
ard the rigid enforcement of the ex
isting state prohibition law.
The most active workers in the
League are in favor of the organiza
tion taking steps in every county to
assist in the detection of blind ti
gers and the punishment of all viola
tors of the law.
It is not unlikely that steps will
be taken to that end at the state con
vention.
It is also regarded as probable

NEW YORK, Sept. 27.—(Special)
Dispatches received today allege that
the plans for a Cuban uprising were
the result of a plot on the part of
those interested in maintaining the
American ocupation of the island.
It is claimed that business interests
opposed to the withdrawal of the
armed forces of the United States,
and the return of the island to the
Cubans for self-government again
without the restraining influences of
the American forces, were really the
instigators of the plots to organize
uprisings, principally among the ne
groes, in certain of the provinces.
By means of such uprisings 't was
hoped to indefinitely prolong the pres

Trustees of Masonic Orphanage
Hold Meeting.
Col. John H. Deveaux, collector of
customs at Savannah, was in the city
yesterday attending the meeting of
the Board of Trustees of the Colored
Masonic Widows and Orphans Home.
The trustees found everything in
excellent shape and the outlook is
very encouraging. The trustees left
highly satisfied with the conduct of
the institution.
Col. Deveaux is one of the most
prominent colored men in Georgia.
He has been collector at Savannah 8
years and prior to that was collector
at Brunswick.
