WHY SCHWAB’S sls SUITS ARE BETTER.
There must be a reason for the success of men and things. It’s not a mere
chance—there’s something of vital importance that makes this success possible and
holds it.
Schwab’s sls Special Suits achieved almost instant success. In the first
place, these garments were the first handmade suits in America that bore a retail
price set by the makers.
The uniqueness of this idea attracted instant attention. Secondly, these
garments were introduced as a leader—a special line to promote the sale of the
entire: line of Scwab’s Clothes from $lO to $25. From its comparatively small success at the first, this special
in only six seasons has grown to be, without any question, the greatest clothing leader in America and since
its first introduction, the Schwabs of St. Louis have tripled their facilities in the making of them. We want
you to visit our store and see this great leader, You’ll never find better fitting, better made or more stylish
suits even at much higher prices.
Ask one of our salesmen to show you the sls Suits with the label “on the sleeve”—we’ve never had
a more popular leader in our store.

NEW YORK, Sept. 27.—A silk
braid covered with tiny soutache but
tons is one of the trimming novelties
of the season.
The noire effect is seen in both
silks and velvets . A satin stripe
combined with a much narrower taf
feta stripe which is morre, is the pro
duction of one fabric.
New belt buckles are in French gilt,
silver, mother-of-pearl. Some are of
dull corrugated silver and others are
set with rhinestones.
Voile de soie is a little newer than
all wool or silk voile. A pretty nov
elty in this is white voile de soie
striped with black chenille ranging
from a hairline to an inch wide
stripe. 'Whether plain or striped, this
is an attractive material.
The seven-eights sleeve will be seen
on the strictly tailored suits, that is,
reaching to the wrist bone. Costume
sleeves are three-quarter length, and
the late novelty sleeves come well
over the hand in a point.
A simple model for a little suit is

made with a two piece circular skirt,
the front seam being cut decidedly on
the bias to give extra fullness. The
coat is invariably made long and
single-breasted, and fitted to the fig
ure.
A very dainty wrist bag, round in
shape, with a gold chain has across
the bottom a row of pearl-shaped ame
thysts set in gold caps.
A coat without pockets is no longer
fashionable. Small and large ones
are found inside and outside the coat
and are trimmed with buttons to make
them conspicuous.
A lovely sash ribbon eighteen inch
es wide had a dark background to the
center, wiiere there were roses in
pale pastel shades. Another of white
background had pink roses and a
border of narrow satin.
For evening wear, long lace mits,
appliqued with narrow' lace braid in
all over designs are fashionable. They
fit the arm snugly, and come well ov
er the kunckles, with a fitted piece
for the thumb.
Velvets are shown in fancy weaves
and in stripes, plaids, rings and dots.
Gray in its various tones is one of the
leading colors, and reddish brown is
much evidenced. Pastel shades come
in the serpent-green, plum and na
tional blue and are all lovely.
Fancy braids will be used with the
soutache w r hich is so popular. Fibre
braids have returned into favor, and
also the old-fashioned serpentine
braiding. Coats are fastened in mil
itary fashion with frogs, cords and
tassels.
Dresses of tafetta or liberty entire
ly handpainted, are the late notes of
elegance in Paris. Garlands of roses
are thrown over the sides and front,
or a deep band of pansies or violets
may ornament the bottom. Very ex
pensive laces are made to trim these
hand-painted toilettes.

led are the principal trimmings for
! the new winter hats. Lovely effects
are shown in the marabout, and their
.popularity is increasing.
Many skirts are heavily trimmed
with bands, ruffles and stripes, which
reach to the knees. This is a decided
change from the plain, untrimmed
skirts that have so long been in fash
ion, but they are generally more be
coming to women than the much trim
med skirt.
The sailor hat of modified shape
will be very fashionable for early
fall wear. The brim turns up slight
ly in front and the only trimming is a
soft ribbon bow the same color as the
felt. This bow is more often seen in
the back rather than the front, and it
is growing larger all the time.
The boa worn round the neck and
the bow of ribbon on the hat much
match in color. The bow on a hat of
soft brown felt was a deep cream
color mirror velvet, and the boa was
of cream-color net, box-plaited, edged
with chenille and was about two yards
long. One end of the boa was finish
ed with two brown velvet ribbon ends
and a cluster of tea roses mingled
with maiden-hair fern, and the other
end was finished with just the ribbon.
Tailored waists are made in wash
able fabrics such as pique, madras
and even silk. They are very plain
the only trimming being buttons cov
ered with self material. Plain or em
broidered linen collars are designed
to be worn with these waists.
Fancy waistcoats are made of lace
and net and are cut exactly like a
man’s vest. The buttons are very
large and elaborate. These waist
coats are to be worn with tailored
suits that have the cutaway front,
and so displaying the bodice or vest.

Will Be Opened at Athens in
January.
ATHENS, GA„ Sept. 27.—The State
College of Agriculture and Mechanic
Arts is to open on January the first
cotton school ever established in the
United States. This is one of the new
features that will go to make the
work of this college of immense ben
efit to the people of this State.
The school will be in session the
early part of January, at a time when
the farmers of the State can best
spare the time to attend it. It will be
one of the features of the winter
school of agriculture, which will be in
session for three months beginning
with January 1.
The special cotton school will hold
only ten days, but in that time it is
proposed to give the farmers a vast
amount of information and to make
the -work intensely practical.
The use of various improved imple
ments will be illustrated thoroughly
and a special study of fertilizers will
be made, showing the best ways of
preparing and mixing them, the needs
of the plants, the rotation of crops
with the view' of improving cotton cul
ture, the handling of the various by
products and the feeding value of the
same.
The improvement of cotton will be
given special attention, both as to
staple and yield.
