C CURES
w«d«d« OLD SORES
I( aji o id sore existed simply because the tier :i was diseased at that
particular spot, it would be aa easy matter to apply some remedy directly
to the place that would kill the germs; or the diseased flesh might be
removed by a surgical operation and a cure effected. But the very fact
that old sores resist every fo~m of local or external treatment, afld even
return after being cut away, shows that bach of them is a morbid cause
which must be removed before a cure can result. Just as long as the
pollution continues in the blood, the ulcer retains an open cesspool for the
deposit of impurities which the circulation throws off. S. S. S. cures Old Sores
bv purifying the blood. It removes every tracp of impurity and taint from
the circulation, and thus completely does awrtjr with the cause. When
S S S has cleansed the blood, the sore begins to heal, and it is not a
surface cure, but the healing process begins at the bottom; soon the dis
charge ceases, the inflammation leaves, and the place fills m with firm,
healthy flesh. Under the purifying and tonic effects of S. S. S. the system
la built up. and those whose health has been impaired by the dram and
worry of an old sore will be doubly benefited by its use. Book on Sore*
and Ulcers and anv medical advice free to all who write.

TWO HUNDRED MEM
BERS CLOSE AT HAND
Y. M. C. A. Steadily Forg
ing Ahead.
By the close of the week the mem
bership of the Young Men's Christian
Association of Americus is expected
to reach two hundred. Yesterday
there were 192 members enrolled, al
though no special canvass has ever;
been made of the city, and as there
have been several inquiries from those
contemplating uniting with the As
sociation it is quite probable that the
active fall work, starting in October
will find the full two hundred reached,
if not passed. This is regarded as an
excellent showing and as indicative
of the healthful interest felt in the
Association and its work. The num
ber of members, considering that
there has been no active solicitation
since the building was opened, com
pares favorably with that in the larger
cities. 'lf a determined effort were
made it is quite likely that the num
ber could be speedily run up to 300
but the manner in which the Associa
tion is naturally developing, members
coming to it mainly of their An ac
cord and because they recognize its
usefulness to them and to the com
munity, is regarded as the more
healthful way for it to expand.
At the meeting of men to arrange
for Bible class studies on Mondaj
night there were about fifty present
Much interest was shown and as a re
sult of the gathering the two classes
in that line will begin with a good
membership of young men who fee!
an interest in the subjects to be
studied.
While the finances of the Associa
tion are still far from being in as
satisfactory a state as could be de
sired there is an improvement as the
work gets more firmly established
and nothing appears in the situatior
as it exists, or in an inspection of the
future indications, to justify anythin?
but a feeling of hopefulness as to the
Association’s ability to meet its finan
cial obligations and eventually work
out of all indebtedness. The income
1 will grow with the steady increase
tof members. Two sleeping rooms
I are not rented, but they will prob-
I ably soon be taken, the advantage of
I rooms in the association building ap-
J pealing especially to the young men.

THE JEffERSONS
IN THE “HENRIETTA”
Large House to See Line
Play To-Night
A very large and fully apprecia
tive audience will greet the Jeffer
sons at the Americus theatre this
evening in their masterly presentation
of “The Henrietta,” supported by a
splendid'company. The sale of seats
yesterday indicated not a vacant
chair when the curtain rises tonight.
Many theatre parties from nearby
towns will enjoy here this superb
production as well.
Joseph Jefferson will appear as
“Old Nick,” the czar of the financial
world.
This character is a powerful, brainy
resourceful man of millions possess
ing an unique sense of comedy. All
emotions possible in the life of one
who virtually controls the financial
destinies of millions of his fellow
men are incorporated in this complex,
yet wholly lovable character and Mr.
Jefferson should appear to the great
est advantage in his entire career.
AVilliam AV. Jefferson is to por
tray “Bertie, the Lamb.” This char
acter is a distinct comedy creation
and while amusing to the extreme,
never descends to the ridiculous or
impossible.
“AVillie,” for he will never be known
by his more dignified name, will be
given possibilities never before al
lotted him and his well known ability
as a comedian will be given a scope
of unlimited dimensions and fully
commensurate with his fun making
abilities.
The supporting company includes
several exceptionally well known ac
tors and is superior to even the very
high standard hitherto maintained by
the Jeffersons. Each of the charac
ters is in the hands of a specially se
lected artist and the jierformance, in
its entirety, will be one of histrionic
brilliance.
A fact not to be overlooked is the
oportunity for the display of beauti
ful gowns.
Sartorial creations are absolutely
demanded and several exquisite gowns
will be much in evidence and will
prove a veritable treat to the ladies
In the audience. In fact, even the
gentlemen cannot fail to be impressed
with the splendidness of the dressing
and a treat for the eye Is as positively
assured as it is for the intellect.
It is not often that such a combina
tion is foupd. The Jefferson boys
are comedians of the first rank, and
the company they have engaged is one
of universal strength.

NEW THEATRE IS OPENED;
FINE PROGRAM IS GIVEN.
Americus Has Another Excellent Pic
ture Show.
In a blaze of electric light, and to
an audience which filled it to the
doors, the new picture theatre under
the management of Mr. Harry Bick
ford had its “opening” last night. And
the hundreds of ladies were as high
ly delighted as though at a real bon
net opening.
The cozy little theatre, seating 300
or 350 people comfortably, is on Jack
son street, next to C. L. Ansley’s
store, and a gem of its kind.
Spick and span new, within and
without, and made brilliant with
myriads of electric lights, the little
theatre glistened like a scintillating
diamond and was the mecca of hun
dreds last night.
Manager Bickford had an excellent
program of moving pictures for his
“opening” while Leopold Meyer, the
comedian, distributed a basket of
North Pole buns in the way of jokes
and witticisms, to say nothing of his
dancing singing and comedy parts.
The new theatre will be given a
name by its patrons this week, and
therein interest lies. Another big
bill will be given tonight.

ROCKEFELLER PASTOR’S
NEW LIVING RULES
Less Powder and Gay White
Way and More Sunshine
Cleveland, Sept. 28.—“ What women
need is less powder and paint and
Great White Way and more outdoors
and sunshine and exercise,” says the
Rev. W. W. Bustard, John D. Rocke
feller’s new pastor. Dr. Bustard,
known as "the athletic pastor,” gave
this list of “essential accessories” to
day:
One fast trotting horse, one thor
oughbred collie dog, one set of golf
clubs, one set of tennis rackets, one
set of handballs, one set of fishing
rods, one set of fowling pieces.
The doctor drives a trotting horse
with a record of 2:09 3-4. Regularly
every morning he golfs with Mr.

Speaking of women, he said:
“Look at the roses on my wife's
cheeks. She walks at least three
miles every day, often accompanying
Mr. Rockefeller and myself around the
golf links, a distance of five miles.
“Get healthy bodies so you can
have healthy souK.
“Live a clean, moral life.
"Take daily systematic exercise.
“Get plenty of sleep in an outdoor
bedroom or one well ventilated.
“Live on a simple diet; eat no rich
foods, and eat less and take longer to
do it. Don’t make the stomach do the

WOMEN’S WOES
Americas Women Are Finding Relief
at East.
It does seem that women have
more than a fair share of the aches
and pains that afflict humanity; they
must “keep up,” must attend to du
ties in spite of constantly aching

spells, bearing-down pains; they must
stoop over, when to stoop means tor
ture. They mucst walk and bend

kidney ills. Kidneys cause
more suffering than any other organ

Mrs. I. M. Cobb, 809 Forsyth street,

to headaches and pains through the
small of my back for some time and
often went for days without getting
relief. I was finally advised to try
Doan’s Kidney Pills and procured a
box at Dodson's Pharmacy. The re

that I procured another box and since
that I felt a great deal better. Doan's

13th GUILD BORN TO
JUDGE RUSSELL
Thifieenih Child of a Thir
teenth Child
(Atlanta Constitution.)
Long-distance telephone brought
word from Winder yesterday to his
associates on the court of appeals
bench, that Judge R. B. RusseU is
again a father for the thirteenth time.
A fine baby boy was born yesterday
to Judge and Mrs. Russell at their
home near Winder, and, though
scarce 24 hours old, he is more than
an ordinary, every-day baby boy.
He is a baby boy with a proud icc
ord behind him. loi he is the thir
ie vth child of a thirteenth child on
his mother's side, and the seventh son
of a seventh son on the side of bis
father.
There are few children in the coun
try or. for that matter, in the world,
who can lay claim to such distinction
at so tender an age.
What name this youngest of the
Russells will bear, the Judge’s Atlan
ta friends did not learn. This is a
decision, it is stated, which the court
has not yet handed down, for it is no
easy matter to name a thirteenth
child, let alone a thirteenth child of
a thirteenth child and a seventh son
of a seventh sen.
Judge Russell’s friends will con
gratulate him heartily upon this lat
est and important addition to his fam
ily.
If the news reaches as farAas Brit
ish East Africa, he may expect a con
gratulatory cablegram from a certain
party who is over there hunting lions
and tigers and wild beasts.
Try This in November.
Thousands upon thousands of fam
ilies who have not been regular eat
ers of Quaker Oats will begin on the
first of November and eat Quaker
Oats once or twice every day for thirty
days of this month; the result in
good health and more strength and
vigor will mean that every other
month in the year will find them doing
the same thing.
Try it! Serve Quaker Oats plenti
fully and frequently for the thirty
days of November and leave off a cor
responding amount of meat and greasy
foods. You’ll get more health, more
vigor and strength than you ever got
in thirty days of any other kind of
eating.
While you are trying this see that
the children get a full share.
The best food for them. Quaker
Oats is also packed in hermetically
sealed tins for hot climates; keeps in
definitely. 7
