■TOM HUDSON IS CERTAIN
OF RESULTS ON FARM
Conditions Never Better He
Declared
Col. T. G. Hudson returned to Atlan
ta yesterday after spending two or
three days at his home in Americus
and in looking after his extensive
planting interests in Sumter and
Schley. Col. Hudson is quite enthus
iastic over the crop prospect in soil*
Georgia, where he was reared, and un
derstands crop conditions.
“Farmers are growing more alert to
the opportunities at their hands every
year,” said Commissioner Hudson.
“They are getting out of the old rut
and are beginning to farm on a broad
and intelligent basis.
“In South and Middle Georgia, where
my observations have been confined
principally this spring, the farmers
have prepared their lands better than
for years. I note with very much
gratification the fact that the corn
acreage has been almost universally
increased.
“Many influences have been and are
at work to lift the farmer out of the
rut, get him to raise grain crops and
home supplies and to make his cotton
crop the surplus one,.
“In other words, first put in enough
corn and other grains to insure ample
home supply, then raise as much co -
ton as possible aside from that. Farm
ers evho are following this plan are
coming to the front. They are out of
debt, have corn cribs and smoke-hous
es filled, good stock, and a great many
of them have nice fat bank accounts.
“The season in South Georgia has
been unusually good this year. At
first South Georgia suffered from the
effects of -a long drouth, but finally
soaking rains came to mellow the 1
ground. Then the farmers got. out and
hustled right. They plowed deep and
had their lands in shape for the re
ception of the crops.
“As I have stated, there has been a
most gratifying increase in the corn
and other grain acreage. And farmers
have prepared their corn lands better

E TAILOR-MADE REFURBISHING
■ M
i
New York, May 1. —The tailor-made,
which arrived so long ago, gains our
affection more and more surely as time
goes on. We cannot, in fact, die with
out it, but so numerous are its guises
that one is at times in danger of losing
sight of its original state. We are too
apt to think that the existence of a
“tailor made” dress only justifies itself
in cloth.
Not so the “edition de luxe,” as it
might be called, of this most indispens
able of garments.
Materials.
Liberty of the richest embroideries
for the collar and revers, the most
complicated of braids, should all com- i
bine to the make-up of these smartest,
of outdoor toilettes, which can toe da
visd in corded silk, rich “souple” sat
in, poplin—the good old-fashioned
Irish poplin—which can be had in
ehaded tones or in short effects, and
than which nothing looks better.
The revers, of course, must be large.
No little apologies of revers which
might equally well be extended collar
points, but really generous drapery ef
fects, imitating Directoire fashion.

BRENAU MUSIC FESTIVAL
I DRAWS TO CLOSE
i Has Been a Season of Great
Success
Atlanta, Ga., May I.—The great three
. days musical festival in Gainesville
. under the auspices of the Brennu
Onphous Club will be brought to a
successful conclusion today. The at
tendance and interest displayed in the
: festival Saturday and Sunday have ex
! cooled :he fondest hopes of those in
■ charge of the undertaking and assures
| the fact that the festival will be an
i annual event which can be looked for
' ward to with keen pleasure by the
. music lovers of the South.
| Tae students of Brenau and River
side turned out in full force to each
| and every performance and this fact
alone was to a large extent responsible
for the wonderful success. The audi
torium of Brenau in which the pro
grams were carried out furnished am
ple acommodations and permitted ex
cellent renditions on account of its
wonderful accoustics.
j One of of the leading features of the
festival was the part played by the
famous Damrosch band, of Spartan
burg, 13. C. This orchestra has won
high praise among music lovers
throughout the country and It was a
leather in the cap of the Brenau Club

than ever before.
“Another great fac*or to arouse in
terest is the boys’ corn clubs. Just
think, we have 4,000 boys at work on
as many acres trying to raise all the
corn possible on the acre each tills.
The influence that boy has on his daddy ,
and the entire community cannot be ,
over-estimated.
■ “South Georgia is the garden spot of
the world from an agricultural view
point. It is filling up mighty fast ,<
with good farmers, but there are thous- i
anils of rich acres here yet, ready to
yield richest bounty to the plow and
the hoe. Georgia is distinctly advanc
ing agriculturally, and is destined to
go forward by leaps and bounds.”
their very latest demand there are
times which one looks at a garment,
scarcely worn, ordered perhaps to sat
isfy the whim of the moment, and feels
that if only it could be lengthened a r
little, or in other ways adapted, it
i would rejoice not only our desire for
the economical, but equally for the
aesthetic. This could easily be done
| by opening up the four skirt seams of
an “over-abbreviated” dress, finishing
it on an apron fashion back and front,
each seam completed from waist to
knee with a row of little buttons, thus
leaving the lower part to open over a
new skirt of silk or satin of the more
! fashionable length, for it is no longer
smart to show four or five inches of
| stocking.
Additions.
With an empiecement to match on
the corsage, tapering to a V-i>oint
above the waist, turned back and
fastened with buttons in line with
those on the skirt, a delightful effect
could be produced, and in this case the
outer seam of the sleeves must also
be opened to reveal the velvet or satin
with a row of buttons from shoulder
to elbow, where tt is finished off with
a cuff of the super-added material.
