MARKETS
Another perpendicular drop of twen
ty points in the cotton futures mar
ket yesterday sent the value of spot
cotton to the lowest point in two
months. This decline, following that
of the past week, has taken all the
gum out of the cotton market, which
wears a Bedraggled aspect, with little
demand for the staple. In the Amerl
cus market 12 cents was about the best
offered yesterday, and but few sales
even at that mudsill figure. The mar
ket was quoted as follows:
Good middling 12 to 12 l-8e
Middling 11 1-2 to 11 0-82
Receipts in Americns.

Yew York Cotton.
New York, Dec. 22.—There was a
renewal of Saturday's selling move
ment at the opening of the cotton
market this morning. Liverpool met
the American weakness of late last
week, and tje influence of the bearish
ginning report was reflected in heavy
over-Sunday selling orders. The open
ing was easy at a decline of 10 to 20
points, with January contracts selling
at 1T.82 or 118 points below the recen*
high level.
After the close of the Liverpool ha]
shut out arbitage buying, the mar
ket weakened again, selling about 6
to 10 points net lower, with May and
July breaking through the opening
prices. This reflected continued li
quidation and seemed to include sell
ing by some of the early buyers.
Prices at midday were within 2 or
3 points of the lowest.
There was heavy local and south
ern liquidation on the early afternoon
break which sent prices 17 to 19
points net lower. Rallies of 5 or 6
points followed on covering and busi
ness became somewhat less active
around 2 o’clock.

Chicago Markets.
Chicago, Dec. 22.—Better snow pro
tection for the winter crop had a
bearish effect on today’s wheat mar
ket Corn poured into Chicago from
all directions today and pulled prices
down. Scattered buying failed to up
hold oafs. Provisions went higher
owing to the fact that hog receipts
were not plentiful.
1 An unexpected decrease in United
States visible supply caused further
depression in wheat. The close, how
ever, was firm, 1-8 to 1-4 net lower.
