le doing a good business. They turn
out nothing but good work, and their
barrels arc in demand. Last Thursday

An Old Offender.
Wednesday afternoon Sheriff Mize nr-
estad a negro named Turner Parcell on a
bench warrant from Muscogee, for lar
ceny from the house. The theft was com
mitted in 1880, and a true bill was found
at the November term of Muscogee court,
1881. Purcell has been working for Mr.
J. H. G. Martin, rh a cotton sampler, for
some months. lie will be sent to Colum
bus.
A Bridal Hotel.
A young man from an adjoining county
came in town one day this week to pur
chase his wedding suit. Ho made bis
purchase, and then made a final effort to
"see tho elephant," beforo consigning
himself to the blessings of married life, in
company with the distinguished visitors,
Tom and Jerry. In a very short time lie
was enstalled in the bridal chamber of
the Hotel de Lingo to take his honey
moon alone.

The Liquor Dealers.
The law requiring retail liquor dealers
to register their business in April was
changed by the lost Legislature, They
are now required to register on tho first
day of January. The law reads as follows
and is imperative:
"From and after January 1,1884, and
annually thereafter, each person or firm
desiring to engage in the sale of spiritu
ous liquors or intoxicating bitters, or in
cither or all of them, m this State, shall,
before he or they commence, the sale of
such spirituous or malt liquors or intoxi
cating bitters, go before the Ordinary of
the county in which he or they propose
to sell said spirituous or malt liquors c*
intoxicating bitten, and register bis or
their names as such dealer."

Kelly brought a buggy load of fish in

with liquor. At H. D. Watts be left his
account book, but went back afterward
and pioked np another one and left it at

Taylor A Willett’a, and seeing fieb laid
out in front of their store, bo pioked up
half a dozen strings and walked off with
