Wllile Lulu Hurst broke umbrel
las over bald heads In the Brook
lyn Theatre last night, a round
headed man, with a dark akin and
twinkling eyes, grinned comically
at her from behind the curtains in
a private box. Finally her mana
ger called for Matsada Sorakichi,
and the round-headed man rose i,, , , .
and bowed. The diamond* on bis ' ° r * nd " ml Traverse Jurors, as pro

chair In his arms and squared him- , , _
self like a pugilist. Lulu surveyed j
him at a distance with her Unger ''' ’
on her brow, and laughed “Aba-a.”
“The wrestler will exert his great
strength to hold the chair,” said
Lulu’s manager.
Lula grabbed the chair and they
two went round and round a circle.
Then they bobbed up and down
like a bottle in the surf. Lula
pushed, nml the jab stolidly re
sisted her. Finally, Lula let go
the chair, shook out her hair, and
ranted. There was applause for
Sorakichi.
In the second bout, Sorakichi j ciretk,EH
forced a chair from Miss Hurst to j Council, G W
hands to the floor, and kept it
there.
“Me beatec she," said Sorakichi
afterward, his face shining. “She
strong girl, and pushee much. Not
move me.”
The lion. John Oakey sat in a
chair, and Miss Hurst disturbed
him. He was called upon for a
speech. He said: “Ladies and
gentlemen—This is the first time I
was ever shook by a girl.”

l’rofcssor Lang hammer of New
Mexico writes to the msnsgers that
he has formed a collection of deer,

lopes, beavers, mountain lions and
numerous small animals, and means
to send them to New Orleans to be
given to the citizens zoological

All the wild animals common to the

For his famous Florida plea
Webster was paid $1,000 in ten
$100 hills. He was engaged in
study os the money was handed
him, and. after giving a receipt, re
sumed his work. That night tlio
money could not be found, nor
could the most diligent scach re
veal any cluu to its whereabouts.
A number of years afterwards Mr.
Webster, turning the leaves of a
book long unused, found a $100
bill. On turning the next leaf lie
found another, and so on succes
sively until the entire ten were
brought to liglit trom the place
where he had absent-mindedly put
them as he studied.
Mr. Clay got everything in work
ing onler last Monday, and that
night had gone down a hundred
feet. The drill passed through clay,
marl, rock, etc. Yesterday even-
at a depth of aoout 350 feet an ar
tesian stream was struck, which
spouted up about 3 or 4 feet above
the ground and, at a rough guess,
flowed about 8 or 10 gallons per
minute. The water is clear and
cold. Mr. Clay will continue bor
ing until the flow is satisfactory.
He is in Macon today getting car
ing for the well.—Cochran Messen
ger.

The Holiest Spot On Earth,
l’erliops the hottest region of the
earth i» along the Persian Gulf,
who -c little or no rain falls. At
Babring, the arid shore bus no
fresh water; yet a comparatively
numerous pupiilaliun contrives to
livu there, thunks to the copious
springs which burst from the bot
tom of Ilia sea. Tlie fresh water
is procured by diving. The diver,
sitting in Ids bout , winds a greal
goatskin.iiag around his left arm,
thu hand gasping its mouth; then
he takes in his right hand a heavy
stone, to which is uttucliud u strong
line, and, thus equipped, he
plunges in nml quickly reaches the
bottom. Instantly opening the
bag over the strong jet of fresh
water, lie springs upon tlie ascend
ing current, at the same time clos
ing tlie hag, nml is helped on bourd.
Thu stone is then hauled up, and
the diver, after taking breath, goes
down again. The source of these
I copious submarine springs is
| thought to lie in the green Helds of
I Osman, some livu or six hundred
i miles distant.
