-While at Americas MondiTpwe
had occasion to talk to several of the
most prominent business men of

Buena Vista, and a || of them are
thoroughly convinced that such nr
enterprise would not only proV e ,
great benefit to the town in a com
mercial sense, but would be a good
investment for the stockholders.
Wc learned indirectly that Major
M. Speer, president of tlie Bank of
Southwestern Georgia, would invest
largely In stock provided that his
sou, Eustace S|icer, who is now head
bookkeeiier for Moore. Marsh A Co.,
of Atlanta, was made cashier of tlie
bank, and It is said by men who
know him that he is an excellent
business young man.
We also talked with Mr. G. W.
Glover, ouo of the most successful
business men of Americus, ami who
has already taken shares of our
bnnk stock, that he would be liuml-
uently satisfied with Eustis Speer
as cashier and Judgo Lowe or some
other prudent and safe business
mail of Buena Vistu as president.
Mr. Glover also remarked that lie
had never tuken stock In any hank
or improvement company (and lie
has stock iu ail of them in Amerl-
cus) hut what he received large re
turns on the Investment.
We must have a bank before the
fall busiuess season opens, and
sooner matters are gotten in sliapo
to that end tlie bettor. Those inter
ested should come to some conclu

Shipping K(ga.
Five years ago such a thing as
shipping eggs from Americus was
unknown. In fact, many hundred
dozcu were brought to Araerious by
the express company for our mar
ket. Now therein a regular busi
ness in shipping eggs to the larger
cities of the State, as was evidenced
by the fact that in the past week
Buchanan A Bell have shipped over
300 dozen. Tho reason of tbiscliange
is on account of the railroads. Peo
ple who could not And a market for
such things live years ago, now send
their eggs and butter ill every day
or week. Indeed, it would be inter
esting to know how much of tills
truck is sent to Americus every
week. More than wo luiagino, wo

By reference to the council pro
ceedings It will he seen that a reso
lution offered by Aid. Mack to sell
the present city property on the
corner of Lee and Lamar streets,
which is occupied by the tiro com
panies and guard house, was
adopted.
Americus hus grown large enough
for the city to have its own city
hall, barracks and engine bouses,
and they should be in keeping with
our other improvements. A city
hall could be erected and should be
large enough to give room for all
these purposes, and at the same
time be convenient and handsome.
The sooner one is built the better
for tbe city. Aid. Mack’s resolu
tion is of the right kind.
