Among the party are some prom

they express themselves as being

Georgia, but deBire a further in

selves as being profoundly grateful
for the extreme kindness and cour

favored Fort Valley and intend in
time to come, to prove to the major
and his numerous friends through

other large orchards, cotton farms
and lands in general, being escort

FRAIL MORTALS.
Yesterday's Recorder contain
ed a statement of the death of Rev.
J. S. White, formerly pastor of the
Presbyterian church here, and his
many frieuds were shocked to hear
of his sudden passing away. He
was highly respected and beloved
by all, and all were greatly afl'ected
by the account of the mauuer of
his death.
Yesterday's Couatitutlou con
tallied the following aecouut:
“Charleston, 8.C., January 22 —
Hnrki.il] is a nourishing city iu up
per Houtli Carolina, of about 4,000
people, and was thrown iuto great
excitement by the disappearauce
of Rev. James 8. White, pastor of
tho Second Presbyterian church,
and assistant to the minister in
charge of the First Presbyterian
church. Yesterday, on account of
his health, Mr. While resigned his
charge.
"Judge Ludeling, a prominent
republican of the congregation, re
fused to accept his resignation, but
gave him a vacation uiitil October.
-'Between 2 and 8 o'clock this
morning be arose aud left his room
against the protest of his wife.
“His son, as soon as he could
dress, followed him, supposing lie
had gone to his study in '.he yard.
Not finding him there, he reported
the fact to his mother, who at once
summoned friends.
"There were many to re-poud,
aud they searched miles around
for tlie missing man. Itbeingsup-
posed that his mind van afl'ected,
it was suggested that he had climb
ed up in the tower of tho windmill
and had fallen in the tank. Upon
examination lut was found there
de%d, floating iu the tank sixty feet
above the ground.”
BADLY NEEDED.
Often has The Recorder brought
before the people tlie urgent neces
sity of building more houses, both
dwelling and store, and while there
are many of both beingerected now
and more contracted for, yet the
supply will never equal the de
mand.
Mr. W. D. Haynes, one of our
prominent real estate agents, said
to a roporter yesterday:
“We are just compelled to have
more houses. I have an average
of live or six applications a day
which I cannot fill. The appli
cants are in nearly every case good
people, and would make the best
of tenants. I suppose that 500
houses could be rented almost at
once, »nd I can’t undeistand why
the capitalists do not liaye them
built, as there is not a better pay
ing investment to tie found."
This is An ml advice, and advice
that should be followed. And be
sides the direct income received
from tlie rent of the houses, there
is the growtli given our city aud
the natural enhancement in the
value of property. We arc forging
abend rapidly, but can do better if
given elbow room, for many cannot
settle on account of the impossibil
ity of securing a home.
Many letters are received here
from parties at a distance concern
ing houses, and in tills, morning’s
Recorder will be found an adver
tisement of Mr. J. W. Marshall, of
WAycross, for a house.

Stereotyped l’epere.
The larger number of our daily
papers are now being stereotyped,
In fact, lead is now in greater de
mand than ever before, that is,
pure lead. In many of the job of
fices a form of typo rarely ever
goes to press. The Recorder
which always leads in Its line of
business, keeps.a stereotper busy
