It really seems that the first builder of
a three story louse in Americus set a
copy for all prospective builders to go
by, .as scarcely any other kind is thought
of now—unless it be a four or live story

will be completed this summer, while
many more still are in contemplation.

gave a ffew additional facts about the
case which may serve to throw some
light upon it. The strange beast, he
says, is nothing more nor less than a
fierce anil wild hyena.
Last Friday a fisherman saw the terri
ble monster as it came down the bank j
on the opposite side of the creek to ;
drink. The man was very much fright-1
ened. but dared not run until the ani
mal finished drinking and had slipped ,
back Into the almost impenatreble jun
gle that stretches tip and down the
stream for miles.
This solution, or explanation rather,
is a very plausible one, and accounts
fully for the presence of the terrible
animal there, as the following facts will
show.
Several years ago, during a general
fight at a circus in a town a few miles
below Sumter City, several animals
broke from their cages and escaped,
among which were four very large and
tierce hyenas. The next day, however,
all the animals were recaptured except
the hyenas, who have since continued to
roam the swamps in that locality.
These animals are very ferocious, and
when hungry will attack a man as well
as a dog. The gentlemen here yester
day is positive that the wholesale
slaughter of the dogs is the work of one
or more of these beasts, p irticularly
sinco one has been seen within a mile or
two of that place. The negroes are very
much alarmed since this fact was made
known, and scarcely one of them will
venture out of doors at night on any ac
count.

away from us; yet there shone upon her face
a “light that ne’er was on land or sea.” Much

All the loving ministers of affection and

Oil. the light that fell around that dying
