ment, at Beaufort, S. C.
Referring to Andorsonvillo, tlio grand

erty formerly used as a prison, and havo

have boon opened, underbrush cut away,
swamp land reclaimed, and an immonsp
amount of labor performed during tlio
past few months.
The title to the property is now vested

How n llrautlful Flower Was Named.
An old legend tolls of two lovers,
walking by the river Rhine. TJiu lady
begged her suitor to pluck a litjfle pale-
blue flower, growing on tho bank. In
doing so, lie fell into tho water, and w’ns
drowned; hut while sinking, ho threw
the flower to hor and cried: “Forget me
not!” Thousands of women will never
forgot what I)r. Pierce’s Favorite Pre
scription has done for them. It is pre
pared especially, to cure those diseases
from winch they alone suffer, and often
in silence, rather than consult a physi
cian—as periodical pains, weak back,
prolapsus, and all uterine troubles

The Oldest Citizen*.
“Do you know how many white citi-
zens of Americus aro fifty-seven years
old, and more?” was the question asked
the reporter yesterday.
Of course he did not, and candidly
confessed tho truth.
Tho question was asked by a party of
gentlemen w ho had counted up at ran
dom such of their acquaintances as were
known U> be over lifty-seven years of
age, and on up to the nineties.
The list presented showed the names
of fifty-three well known citizens, not
ono of whom was under lifty-seven.
There are, of conrse, many more, but
this number served the purpose in
tended.
Several days since gentleman fifty-
seven years old w’as referred to in those
columns as an “aged citizen.” A num
ber of his associates, it seems, did not
so regard him, and made up a list of
gentlemen of their acquaintance equally
as old, but who by no means are consid
ered “aged.”
Tills showing is certainly creditable to
the health of Americus.
The (Irratcjit Dlitrovery of tho Age.
Dyspepsia is perhaps the most preva
lent of all chronic diseases, and one too,
up to the present time has haflled the
skill of tho most eminent physicians,
nearly all the proprietary medicines
have been tried and failed. After
spending years of study, Dr. Holt lias
at length succeeded in getting up a
remedy (Dr. Holt’s Dyspeptic Elixir)
that has never failed to cure in a single
instance. If you suffer with this dis
ease, try ono bottle and be convinced,

But now times have changed and the
plain and simple fare of the forefathers
is done away with. Patent flour, and
high seasoned fond and strong drinks,
have taken its place, and as a result,
dyspepsia, impure blood, and diseases
of the stomach, liver and lungs are nu
merous. The great change has led one of
the most skillful physicians of the age
to study out a remedy for theso modern
diseases, which he has named his Gold
en Medical Discovery. I)r. Pierce in this
remedy has found a cure for Dyspepsia,
Bronchitis, Asthma, Consumption,in its
early stages, .and “Liver Complaints.”

piece of meat at supper the other night.
Slight derangements of the stomach
and bowels may often bo corrected by
taking one of Ayer’s Pills. Through
not having the pills at hand, your dis
order increases, and a regular fit of sick
ness follows. “For a want of a nail the
shoe was lost,” etc.
