announced tLal YU.UUU freight had l,cell
paid on a number ot cars of steel rails to
be used on the Abbeville and Way cross
road, which is now in course of con
struction from Abbeville to Way cross,
and that work on the road would now
be pushed forward to completion as vap
idly as men an money can push it.
Thereby hangs a tale.
It will be remembered tlmt a company
of well known capitalists who have had
some experience in railroad matters
const a trade by which they
eaino in possession of the Atlanta &

This iis the way
with the Ball corset: if you
want ease and shapeliness,
you buy it—but you don’t
keep it unless you like it.
After two or three weeks’
wear, you can return it and
have your money.
Comfort isn’t all of it
though. Soft Eyelets, and
"hones" that can’t break or

by those who gave the matter thei

’ There is not a man in Georgia who
; will not recoiled the recent scoop of the
| Central by the Richmond Terminal and
the cutting down of Mr. Gabbett’s au
thority when he was made superintend
ent of the Central division of the Geor
gia Pacific, under General Manager
Greene. Mr. Gabbett was quoted as
saying that he had made it a rule of his
life never to go backward but to go for
ward in Yailroad work, and that he
would not sccept ^he place of division
superintendent.
Now Mr. Gabbett is general manager
of the Covington and Macon. The road
is not such a pretentious one but Mr.
Gabbett has more absolute power over
it than lie had over the Central. While
the bondholders bought the road, for
they owned it already, the same parties
who engineered the A. & F. deal are
said to have had a linger in the pie.
They are also said to have known that
