The house to-day passed the resolu-
tion appropriating 8500 to pay a person
to go to Washington city and make an
abstract of the records of those to whom
the direct tax coming to Georgia is due
and also authorizing the collection of
the money, 882,427.47.
A bill was also passed to pay the state
road betterment commission 815,000
each, also stenographic and other ac
counts connected with the sittings of the
commission.
Ryals introduced a bill requiring keep
ers and proprietors of scasido resorts to
keep during the bathing season life
boats, ropes, preservers, etc., for the
protection of bathers.
Mattox of Clinch, introduced the fol
lowing important bill:
An act to define drunkenness—
Whereas, section 1201 and 3850 of the
code, recognizes drunkenness as render
ing persons incapable of making legal
contracts, giving in evidence, legal man-
nage, therefore,be it enacted,that a per
son who from the uso of intoxicants,
does not walk, talk or act as they com
monly do, are declared to bodrunk.
Goodwin, of Fulton, Introduced a bill
making it unlawful for any person to
sell or deal in tickets unless he is a duly
authorized agent of a railroad company,
also, any part of a round trip ticket
which is unused must bo redeemed or if
a whole ticket is presented it must bo
redeemed.
Soay, of Floyd, a bill to require each
and every miller or manufacturer of
Hour or meal to print on all sacks tho
number of pounds they contain.
Tho tcinporanco committco has ro
ported favorably tho bill making it a
misdemeanor for railroad or express
companies to carry or dclivor spirituous
liquor into a prohibition county, also the
bill making drunkenness a crimo punish
able by line or imprisonment.
By a resolution, Pat Calhoun was in
vited to address tho house of represen
tatives on tho subject of deep water at
Savannah. Tho national government
will bo asked to appropriate 83,000,000
for harbor improvements at Savannah
Members of tho state colored alllanco

to-day and on motion half an hour was
given the leaders of the colored alliance
to address th o house of representatives.

ernor’s nomination of Virgil Powers as
railroad commissioner.

ON THE MOBILE AND GIRARD ROAD
YESTERDAY.

ored Train linnda Injured—Dr. Jordan,

Colfmbcs, Ga., July 25.—[Special]—
About daylight this morning a freight
train on tlic Mobile & Girard road ran
into a palace car one mile from this city,
and was badly wrecked.
Engineer Harry Hardy had several bad
cuts and bruises about the bead and
body, and is seriously hurt.
Fireman Henry Randall received cuts
in the head, legs and side, and Is hurt
internally.
Tom Johnson, Osborn Fegerson and
Richard Colson, colored train hands,
were badly bruised and cut up.
Conductor Jones escaped with slight
Injuries.
The wounded men were brought to
this city and attended by Dr. S. N. Jor
dan, surgeon for the company, who was
at work with them for five hours. He
expressed an opinion that all of the in
jured would recover.
Sensational reports about the wreck
early this morning caused considerable
excitement.
A bill will be introduced in the legisla
ture to make all municipal officers in the
