Atlanta, Sept. 20.—in the course of

rushed excitedly over to the aisle where
Mr. Fleming was standing and putting
his hand in his pockets as if to draw a
weapon, said:
"By G—d, if lie means to insult me I
will whip the d d scoundrel. ”
Mr. Fleming stood perfectly calm,

Mr. Waxelbaum lias b'en largely

The Times-Recordeb is authorized
by Major Speer to denounce this state
meat as utterly false, and without any
foundation whatever. Major Speer
states that he has never used any such
expression in regard to the Alliance
warehouse, and that some designing per
son must have originated tho rumor out
of a spirit of malice.
Major Speer further authorizes the
statement that ho has none hut the best
of feeling towards the warehouse in
question, and those who know him-best
do not doubt for one moment that the
rumor was originated by an enemy of
that gentleman.

Atlanta'* New Paper.
Atlanta, Ga., September 22.—A new
weekly paper will be started In Atlanta
next Saturday.
It will be owned and conducted by a
stock company, and Editor Elam Chris
tian, of the Douglassville New South,
will be the general manager.
In conversation with a Herald man
this afternoon, Mr. Christian said-
“The paper will stand Hat-footed on
tho Ocala platform, and will advocate
the formation of a new party, because
that is the only way to get Incorporated
In our national laws the principles con
tained in that platform ”
Which side will you take in the
Northen-I.ivingston controversy;”' Mr.
Christian was asked.
“That depends on how they stand on
the third party question,’’ he replied, and
then he shrugged his shoulders.
Arretted on Suspicion*
Atlanta, September 22.—James
Twiggs and Ed Collins, two negroes,
were arrested by Patrolman Mehaffey on
Decatur street yesterday on suspicion.
Collins suits the description exactly of a
negro who is wanted In Monroe county
for murder. Twiggs is supposed to be
an escaped convict. Both negroes are
very large, and Patrolman Mehaffey, as
usual, did a lino piece of work in mak
ing tile arrest, a* he had only a slight
clue when he began.
Harried Last Nl*ht.
Last night, at 8:30 o'clock, Mr. W. M.
Martin and Mlsa Leola Guerry were uni

age, Rev. J. B. Johnstone officiating.

It was a surprise to a certain degree,
but there were a few people in the se
cret anil among that foiv was a newspa

Mr. Simpson took his wife to the home
he had provided for her and it is not
saying too much when happiness of all
kinds is wished for them,
AN OLD PISTOL.
A Relic ol the War Found at Anderson-
vllla.
Last night Sumter Tondee brought an
old pistol to The Tihes-Recoiwer
office.
Ho found it, partially burled, at An-
dcrsonville last Sunday. When discov
ered it was sticking, muzzle downward,
in a marshy spot, and it still contains
one bullet.
The handle lias been destroyed by age
and exposure hut, although very much
rusted, it is stilt otherwise intact, and
could very probably be made an excel
lent weapon.
Northern museums would pay a largo
price for the old pistol, and Tondee says
he will at once negotiate for its sale.
It Wu-n't n Runaway.
Thc mention of the marriage of Mr.
Gcorgo Simpson and Miss Maud Bass, in
yesterday's Timks-Kecordeb, might be
misconstrued by some peoplo aud it is
with ploasure that the fact is noted that
the marriago was not a clandestine one
by any means. A large circle ot friends
witnessed the ceremony, which occurred
at the home of the parents of the bride,
and Mr. Simpson was one of the happiest
of men when he carried his wife to his
formerly desolate bachelor's abode.
The Ga* Work*.
Yesterday Messrs. F. Petjen and M.
Huntlne, of Fort Wayne, Ind., represent
ing the Ker-Murray Manufacturing Com
pany, arrived in Americus. They come
for the purpose of putting in-the gasom
eter and tank for the gas works, nnd will,
therefore, be here some time. When fin
ished, Americus will hare a complete
gas plant that, will be a credit to the
metropolis of Southwest Georgia.
Mia* Lilly Salter'* Death.
Yesterday the stainless soul of Lilly
Salter passed over to “the land that fa
fairer than day.” Mias Salter was the
next eldest daughter of Mr. Jeaae Salter,
of this county, and was just entering
upon that stage of life which I* always
the happiest to women. 8he was begin
ning her teens when the Angel of Death
laid bU cruel touch upon her.
A BOYCOTTED ROAD.
THE GEORGIA SOUTHERN AND FLOR
IDA IN DIFFICULTIES.
Wh»t Folk* Think About It In Atlanta-
Holding Off on the Georgia Southern and
Florida—A Suggestion to the Richmond
and Danville.
Atlanta, Ga., September 21.—The
railroad commission will Investigate that
boycott. Colonel Erwin will arrive to
day, and this afternoon they will consult
about the matter.
Col. Powers is already here, so is Mr
Knapp, the traffic manager of the Geor
gia Southern railroad, tho company
which has been boycotted.
That something will be done is certain
Tho only argument that tho railroads
can employ is that tho commission has
no authority to force tiiem to act as
agents for another corporation or to
make them appoint another corporation
as their agent, ns would bo the case if
they are forced to sell the Georgia South
ern railroad tickets and the Georgia
Southern sell theirs. But this is an
evasion of this question at stake in
which the whole people aro interested
It is a combination against the Georgia
Southern, not becauso they are afraid
tho Georgia Southern will not pny them
for the tickets they sell, but because the
Georgia Southern is selling tickets over
its line cheaper than the combination
wants them sold.
What is easier than for the Richmond
Terminal to bottle rp the Georgia South
ern. They own every through line lead
ing into Macon, nrd they can refuse to
deliver freight to the Georgia Southern
cripple it and buy it for a song. Macon
is especially interested in tills question.
If the combination is allowed to do this
they can ruin any road in Georgia not in
with them, and can absolutely prevent
the buildiug of other lines.
This is a foretaste of what may ho ex
pected if the boycott is not immediately
broken up. If, this afternoon, tho com
missioners experience any doubt as to
their authority, a letter to tho governor,
asking him t6 present the matter to the
legislature would no doubt bring the
necessary legislation to defeat the scheme
to wreck and ruin a competing line of
road.
A BAKBER GOES INSANE.
While Shaving » Man anil Attempt* to
Make film a Corpse.
Kennett Square, Pa.. Sept. 21.—A
barber becoming insane while shaving
mail is what every tnau who ever had
his chin scraped has feared. Therefore,
great sensation was created here when
Wm. Reese showed signs of insanity
while shaving Larkin Jackson. Jack-
son hud beeu luthered nnd was sitting
quietly in the clmir when Reese made
him shiver clear down his spine by re
marking: "Jackson, you would make a
beautiful corpse. I tliiuk I will take
you to heaven with me. ” The barber's
eyes grew wild and his hand moved un
easily, scratching Jackson's face. Reese
laid the razor down fora minute nnd
rubbed his hands. 1 his* was supposed
to lie preparatory to making Jackson an
angel. Jackson, thinking it was time
for mm to get out, made for the door,
hut iie was not quick enough for Ileese,
ho met him at the door, aiyil after
hard struggle he wrestled nilu-elf louse
and started down the street with Reese
lose pursuit. Reese stumbled and
fell. He was captured and will not do
any shaving for some time to corns.
