Uu Is the bustling editor of the outer,
prising paper of a progressive little
city.—Athens Banner.
A great curse of tbie age is tko In,
culcatlon, especially In families, that
money Is the moat desirable thing to poe
tess. buck false doctrine leads to the
dishonor and asteriorsllon of boys and
girls, to a rotten clnliiaUon, and to per
dition In the world to come.
Hus, Futtkr Palmer says that no cos
metics, face powders or toilet prepara
tions of any sort are to be sold in the
Woman's Department of the World's
Pair. She la a prohibitionist on this
point, and so the dear girls will hare to
carry to Chicago a prorate stock of arti
ficial bcautlfiers.
The prime wants of the Alliance peo
ple were tariff reform, equalization of
Usatlon and laws to protect farm pro
ducts from gamblers In futures. It It a
little strange, therefore, that the Third
party platform which Is so broad and
long should utterly omit any reference
to all three of the aims matters.
The Democratic Executive Committee
met In Forsyth Thursday, and set Satur
day, the 25th Instant, as the day
when Monroe county should show her
preference as to Berner and Cabaalas.
They also deelded to her all bolters of
the Democratic party by allowing no
one to vote who will not pledge their
support to the Democratic nominees.
On the 28th Instant there will be a mass
meeting to select delegates to the guber
natorial convention.
Ti'ENEii has one-third of the counties
now and only half the counties hsve se
lected delegates. 11s will get nearly all
the others. Ills nomination will be
made on the fli at ballot and It may be
by acclamation. Judge Atkinson would
hardly permit the presentation of hie
name to the convention If he has only
the vote of one county, which now
seems probable, and Judge Roberts
would scarcely allow his name to go be
fore the convention with only two coun
ties, which now seems to be about the
best that be will be able to do. In case
these names are not presented Mr. Tur.
ner would be nominated by acclamation.

The famous murder case against II.
Clay King, a prominent lawyer of Mem
pbis, under sentence of death for the
killing of David II. Poston, another
prominent lawyer of the same city, is
before the supreme court of Tennessee
on sppeal. The chief ground of ap|>ea!
Is that the judge of the lower court re
fused s change of venue after atating In
o|>en court that he found the public
mind ba<l settled Into a fixed opinion
prejudicial to the defendant. At the
time of the trial It was declared by Col.
King's lawyers that he was inssne, but

It Is not probable that the protests of
the Princess Marie of Edinburgh to her

Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria, will have
much weight against the desires of those

The latest proposition on the question
of opening tbe World’s Fair on Sunday
It In the nature of a compromise. Di
rector General Davie proposes that the
Music Hall of tbe Exposition be devoted
to religious services on Sundxy. In
this great ball teats can be provided for
15,000 | ertons, for whom there would be
no room In tbe crowded churches of
Chicago. At It le not Intended to ran
the machinery on Sunday, multitudes
might attend divine services In the Ex
position grounds without being dis
turbed In tbe least by secular noises,
while other multitudes might visit tbe
art gallaiiea and other places of interest
and Instruction. This would be meet
ing the opponents of Sunday opening
considerably more than half way.—Co
lumbus Enquirer-Sun.
Chicago has temporarily loat interest
In the World's Fair, the Democratic
National Convention and the state of tbe
country generally. A pall bangs over
the city and vague whUperiogt concern

been reported that Anson will leave the
Windy City's team and play baseball for
New York.
The lawyers la attendance on the
