Rome, Ga., June 2—[Special.]—The
report that was circulated on the »treeta
here late yesterday evening to the elTect
that Walter S. Bereaford, alias “Lord'

haa proved to be only too true.
Ilia atrange maneuvering* for the paat

were Intereatad In hlacaae, but little did
they dream that he would ao suddenly
shake the dust of beautiful Rome off bis
•hoe*.
He stated several week* ago that he
would soon arrive at the point where he
could kick these people and tell them to
go to b—1.
Telegrams have been sent to all parts
of the United States authorizing bla
arrest His bondamen have given him
up. Sheriff Jake C. Moore left this
morning on the 1230 train over the East
Tennessee road for aeveral points In
pursuit of the slick “lord.”
Report* received here this morning
stated that Bereaford parted with his
wife at the Kimball house In Atlanta,
Tuesday evening, and that be remarked
to her that he would never aee her

upon her, and she became prostrated at
once. She left that evening for Chatta
nooga.
A telegram from Mrs. Beraaford was
received from Chattanooga this morning,
in which she said that: “We will ar

Where her lord la, th* Lord only knows;
she does not.
Bereaford left Borne full-handed and
he leaves many to mourn bla sudden de

It la estimated that he skipped with
*0,000 In clean caah. Mr. L. A. Dean,
one of bis attorneys said this morning
that Bereaford had gone without a doubt
never to come back again any more.”

There were two interesting cases be
fore Judge Fi.li yes'erday.
One was the stock law cane from Web
ster county.
Last August the county held an elec
tlon on stock law-, and the no-fence men
carried the day.
Not long afterwards one of the county
citizens took up some bogs belonging to
another citizen charging trespass. The
owner of the hogs kicked, snd made the
point that the awine could not be taken
up as the stock law election was illegal
In that It was held in August Instead of
the first Wednesday in July aa act by
law.
The case was tried before a justice
and the no-fence men won. By certiorari
proceedings the case was brought before
Judge Flab, and yesterday the hearing
took place. Messrs. Thornton, of Co
lumbus, and Edwarda, of Dawson, repre
sented one aide, while Meaare. Hudson
and Blalock and Stevens, of Dawson,
were on the other.
The judge reserved bis decision.
The other case was that of 1 W. Cable
who wu given a verdict of *1,000 dam-
ages against the Savannah A Western
railroad. The case was appealed by
Colonel Peabody, of Columbus. Messrs.
Hinton A Cutts represent Cable. Deci
sion was also reaerved In this case.
