Tho night of July 15th, 1590, Alex Dun

and wound up in an altercation at tho
Allen House bar. Harrow was shot, and
Duncan Med immediately after the
shooting, but surrendered himself to
tho law in a abort time aud was given
bail, llarrow died from the effects of
the wound in November, 1590. Duncan
was on trial for his life yesterday. Wit
nesses were all examined and the array
of legal talent began their arguments at
11 a. m. Thursday. Mr. W. H. Kim
brough opened for tho state, holding tbo
attention of the jury and court for forty
minuics. Col. Hollis followed for the
dofense. He spoko one hour and a half,
making a strong and conciso argument.
Col. E. F. Illnton thon addressed the
court eloquently and loglcnlly In buhnlf
of his client, Alex Duncan. Ilia telling

tho argument for the dofense.
Hon. Dupont Uuerry mudo tho conclud

Kish’s chargo to the jury was able, clear
and comprehensive. Every legal tech
nicality was thoroughly brought out by
his honor, and the jury was ably in
structed as to tho evidence and the law
in regard to murder, voluntary man
slaughter and juatlflable homicide. Tho
jury rotired at H o’clock.
The trial attracted a large crowd of
Interested spectators. Alex Duncan,
tho prisoner, sat throughout the trial a
quiet listener. He was attended by his
brother and counsel. Mr. and Mrs.
Barrow, parents of James Barrow, the
deceased, were very much moved, and
teare, silent tears, told the sorrow of
tbclr bereavement. Drink, strong drink,
caused tho row which sent poor Jim
Barrow to an untimely grave, and caused
young Alex Duncan to slay hla friend, a

Dear Sir: The Electropoise I bought
from your agent in October last baa given
entire satisfaction. The use of it has
effected, > think, a permanent cure on
me. I had tried many remedial for
years for dyspepsia or Indigestion, and
could not get any permanent relief until
I tried the Electropoise. As I have said
before, I would not sell mine for One
Thousand Dollars, unless I could replace
It for less. Respectfully,

are holding high carnival in our patches
and cotton lieids, and our efforts to sub

sumes all our time, strength and ability.
Ceres, or serious or whatever you call
her, certainly gives us a bountiful prom
ise, and whet hor or not we can realize
on tho auspicious hog we shall certainly
have the hominy.
Our cotton Is beset with many grow
ing uncertainties, flourishing in their
luxuriant greenness, while the plant is
as tender and sappy as the third party
platform.
Speaking of this reminds me of poll
tics, and can’t you tell us something
about them? Tbcro are so many theo
ries and so many Issues and so many
platforms, and wo read so little that we
really don’t know on what wo stand nor
who stands with us. Can you get up an
old fashioned rally and get us all togeth
er and have men who kuow to tell us
about It? We will come, grass or no
grass.
Arrange for tho many legislative can
didates to tell us what they know, on
what plank thoy stand, and what they
propose to do. Then bring In some of
the bigger guns like Will nawket and
DuPont Guerry who can whoop us up
in grand style and let us all realize one
more grand old democratlo juhlleo. It
will do us good, do the country good
and do the candidates good.
Neighbor Grampus, who plows up the
line between us, told me yesterday that
he was in town last week, and tried
hard bnt could not find the true course
of a single stream of political possibili
ties that permeates the areas of legisla
tive aspirations. I said: "That’s so."
I did not know what else to say. Did it
evsr occur to you that we sometimes
need Instruction?
I hope you will have the mass meet
