Harper. chief of the National Gnar<l, at once
Hr. Hari-er .tated that he could not j itlue(I the following order:
aerve, a. he would be kept biuy on the ..(ieortte It. Snowden, major-general
board of equalizer*. In spite „f hi*
protest the four nominated were elected
by acclamation.
Hr. Itodger* again t,H>k the door and
atated that the great need of the party
wat organization, and on thii account
candi<latea ,hould be put out for every
office from bailiff up. While aucceaa
waa doubtful io many ca»e», yet enough
votes would be cast to compel the party
to be respected. It waa very doubtful
that they could defeat Hr. Crisp, but
they could lend a *enator from this dia-
trict and were going to do it.
He then nominated I. H. Wlggin*. J.
H. Walker, Valentine Ilodgers and C. A.
House as delegates to the senatorial con-
vention, and they were elected by accla*
nation. It waa decided to bold the two
conventions In Americas on the same
day, the Sad of August.
Then came some other business and
speeches la which TubTimks-Rccouijku
and other papen figured.
Mr. Rodgers wanted the people's party
platform as adopted at Omaha published
In The Timks-Kk<-ohiikii for the Infor*
motion of the public. Mr. John II.
Walker opposed this on the ground tbnt
The Times.Recohueii bad persistently
fought and misrepresented the party.
He said thej party must look to the
Southern Alliance Farmer for their news
paper literature. He was In favor of
getting 1,000 copies of the Alliance
Fanner containing the platform and dis-
tribute them among the people.
Mr. Rodgers suggested that 10,000
hand hills of the platform be struck off,
and through the executive committee
distributed over the county. This waa
carried along with the order that the
work of printing the bills be given the
Alliance Farmer.
Mr. II. F. Mathews moved that the
BMetlLg adjourn to s fixed day when
candidates for the legislature should be
nominated. Tbit was opposed, as the
executive committee hsa the power to
call a meeting at any time.
Or. G. A. Harper aroused a great deal
of enthusiasm by announcing that so
soon as congress adjourned Hon.
Tbolnas Watson would come to Ameri
cas and deliver a speech. Be wanted
tbs news spread and every man from
Americas to tbs Atlantic ocean to be
beta. The little band cheered lustily
the name of their representative In era-
grestlonal balls.
Much complaint waa Indulged In by
Walker, Rodgers and others of what
they term abuse and misrepresentation
by The Tnite-IUicoRDXH, the Constitu
tion and the Journal. They claim that
the third party and Its platform have been
misrepresented, and the especial |>olnt
they make Is on that famous twelfth
plank adopted at St. Louis and referring,
as la well known, to |>enslons, and which
The Timek-Kkcoiuikii kept standing
In Its column* from a day or two after
Its passage until after the adoption of
the Omaha platform. Several of the
members made much complaint of this,
and failed to offer a vote of thanke to
Tun Tiued-Rkcoiidkii and other news-
papers whose persistent publication of
obooalons plank caused the Omaha con
vention to drop It.
These papers effectually killed this
most abominable part of the platform,
and have the satisfaction of knowing
they did tbetr duty. The shakers yea-
terday didn’t took at It that way, ami
complained because of the very publics-
Hons that caused the killing of a very
live part of the original platform.
The meeting adjourned sine die.
