A Great Victory For llir Central —An At*

One of tlio faat**t rutin over ninth* by n
train In the noutli wa* mule liy nn
excursion train on the Central ro.nl Fri
day.
The excursion wont to Atlanta from
Jacksonville, Fla. The train left the
latter place at half pant aeven o'clock in
the evening nn»l wan scheduled to roach
Atlanta at 7-10 Friday morning.
The train reachrtl there at OslOo'clock,
jusl one hour ahead of time, ami brat*
ln>: another train which left Jacknon\llle
with the Central train, by another route,
over forty-five minuten.
The run from Macon to Atlanta wan
very fant indeed. “Nancy Hanks," the
Central's fant engine, pulled the train
from Slacon to Atlanta.
At one place a run of forty miles wan
made in forty minuten.
The flyer panned Americunat lirfM yes
terday morning running forty-live miles
an hour. Not a Mop wan made between
Albauy and Macon, a distance of 107
miles, which wan made in a little over
two hours.
Shortly after leaving Waycross the
train ran over a horse, and this alone
saved it from terrible disaster, for only a
few hundred yards Ireyond where it
struck the anitinl a great pile of cross,
ties were found upon the track.
Had the engine struck th.'se while
running at a full speed of fifty miles an
hour the train would have oecn wrecked
and perhaps many lives lost.

Tlie FIninheau (lull Fro|N»*e a Trip lo An
il Hat tl III Novriiiticr.
A large number of the members of the
Arncrictis llanilnMU rlub arc highly in
favor of a trip to Augusta or some town
in tlio Tenth district during tho ap
proaching congressional contest.
They were so successful in tho tight
just ended that they are thoroughly con
vinced that Tom Watson will tako to the
woods or tho malms of "innocuous dcs
uetude" in the face of tho light of truth
which their brilliant llamboaux are sup
posed to give faith.
Tho proposition of a trip to (he "elec*
trio city" some time early In November
meets with much favor, and It Is alto
gether probable that arrangement* will
bo perfected at an early day looking to
such an evout. There i* no doubt hut
I that tho club will go If enough of its
{ members ho decide.
‘ ('apt. W. M. Hitt, an old Augustan, Is
1 highly in favor of tho project, and
promises the hoy* all manner of good
tilings in the event of their going. An*
gusts, ho says, never docs things by
halves, and the club would be given a
royal reception by her citizen*.
A meeting of tho club members will
very likely be called for one night this
week, and If a suflirlent number of them
can be induced to make the trip, a com
mlttce will tc appointed at once tomnke
all necessary arrangements.
It lias been suggested, In the event
*f a favorable decision by the club, that
•he Central railroad bo requested to
'uruisli a special train to run from tills
ity to Augusta, for the convenience of
he flambeau boys and such of their
liends as may care to jyin them.
Much a train putied by tho "Nancy
Ianks" could leave Americas at noon
ad reach Augusta In ample time for a
trade that night, returning here very
vly the next morning. In this way
ic men would only.be awa> from home
balf day and oue night, or less than
smty boms. However, should the
ub desire to stay longer arrangements
»that end could easily be made.
