bian celebration opened tble morning.
The city i. crowded with visitors from
all parts of the country.
The city waa elaborately decorated,
and never before waa New York ao gaily
dressed in bunting and flags. Fifth
avenue ia one long ribbon of color, sod

The feature of the day waa the parade
of the school children, who formed at
the Fifth avenue and Fifty-nlntli street
entrance to Central park.
There were 23,000 of them assembled
under the command of Colooel David S.

alone, with twenty regiments of children
from tho public school, having the right
of way. -
The people entered into the spirit of
the occasion with life and seat. The

At the political headquarters schemes
for securing votes were put out, nod
politicians sought to get good positions
from which to see the spectacle.
Governor Flower and Senator IIIII are

Jersey City yesterday afternoon at 4

gomery rood, consequent upon lla com
pletion through to Montjpimery, waa
