Preibytery will convene at the l’resby-
terian church, on Jackson afreet, In tliia

compress near the Central freight depot,
and something like a thousand bale*
the lleecy were pressed during tbe day.
Twenty-nine solid carloads of cotton
were received from points below Amerl-
cua Monday, and thirty-live carloads
on yoaterdsy. Estimating twenty bales
to the car these two shipments nlone
aggregate 1280 bales, which was not half
bad for two days.

Death of Mias Sima.
Misa Sallie Sima, daughter of Mr
Yank Sima died at bar father's home, six
mile* east of Americus, on Saturday
night last, of fever. Miss Sims was
most loveable youag woman and her sad

cle of friends who knew and loved her,

Xbw York, Oct. 10. —Grover Cleve
land arrived in town this moi ning, ac
companied by E. C. Benedict and private
secretary.
Tho party left Gray (table* on Satur
day aboard Mr. Benedict's yacht. They
spent Sunday at Mr. Benedict’s bouse at
Greenwich.
Mr. Cleveland and Mr. Benedict ar
rived at tbe Victoria hotel at 10:03 a. m.,
and found that a window on the Fifth
avenue side of the hotel bad been re
served for their use from which to re
view the parade. Mrs. Cleveland and
Mrs. Benedict reached the Victoria soon
after 11 o'clock.
Tbe democratic manxgcrs continue to
express their gratification at the result*
of tbe recent elections in Florida and
Georgia, ia emphasising tbe fact that,
notwithstanding tbe extraordinary effort
put forth by tbe republican leaders the
electoral vote of tbe southern states will
be found in the democratic column
heretofore. Confirmatory of that view
reference i* made to a letter received
from Hon. A. E. Stevenson, in which be
refers to the situation aa be found it dur
ing Ilia recent trip to several of the
southern states.
Mr. Stevenson baa no doubt but that
democratic victories will be won in all
tbe southern states.

daya ago, be refers in a complimentary
mannor to Mr. Cleveland’s letter of ac
ceptance, cordially endorsing the views
expreaxed by Mr. Cleveland in hia letter.

Yesterday being a holiday in New
York, tlio Cotton Exchange thoro waa
closed and consequently no reports were
sent out to tlio other markets through
out the country.
Tlio Americus mnrkot closed quiet,
with receipts for tbe day aggregating
nearly 400 bales, exclusive of through
cotton recelvod by rail for compression,
quotations at the close of business yes
terday were: Good middling 7}c, mid
dling 7J. Sales for tho day were com
paratively light.
Tbe Savannah market closed easy, with
middling quoted at 71, which ia .inly |
better than Amerleu* quotations for the
same gratis. Liverpool cloeed yesterday
easy, with 4 7-10 d. quoted for middling
uplands.
Receipt* at all United States ports
yesterday were only 02,100 bales. The
fall off In comparison with port receipts
tor corresponding dates last year has
been tremendous within the past few
weeks. Americus warehousemen say
the receipts at porta for this week will
be fully 123,000 bales short of receipts
for the same week last year.

Wants to Corns Hark Again.
Mr. William Cobb, a former resident
of Americus but now residing on his
plantation near Columbus, baa been in
tbe city for the paat day or two looking
after business matters.
Mr. Cobb ia senior member of the shoe
lirm of Cobb A Daniel, of (this city, and
more than half way inclined to return
to his first love—Americus. He says
there is no other town like it in Georgia,
and that aa soon as he can so arrange his
affaire be la coming back to remain for
all time.
