the escorting German cruisers and a
flotilla of British*torpedo boats, reach
ed Port Victoria at 8 o'clock this
morning.
The arrival of the German emperor
was made the occasion of an imposing
naval display. All the warships at
Bherness were dressed, their crews
manned the decks and the usual sa
lutes welcomed the Imperial visitors.
The emperor wore the undress uni
form of a British admiral. Tho Ger
man ambassador, Count Wolff-Motter-
Ich, soon Joined' his majesty, who sub
sequently received tho British court
of officials sent to attend him and the
other members of the Gorman ombas
•y.
After breakfast Emperor William
landed, the crew of tho Hohenzollern
manning ship and cheering lustily and
the British warships firing another sa
lute as the emperor boarded a train
for Dover, on his way to Shorncliffe
camp, where ho will review the First
Royal Dragoons, of which regiment he
Is honorary colonel-in-chief.
Unusual precautions were taken by
the railroad officials. All traffic was
stopped along th? route to Dover half
an hour before tho imperial special
train was due. Large British and
German detective staffs were on duty,
and the Junctions and tho approaches
to the stations were closely watched
and cleared of spectators during the
passage of the train. It was raining
heavily when Emperor William left
tho train at Dover, whence mounted
on one of his own chargers, he rode
to bnorncliffe camp, accompanied by
Lord Roberts and a brilliant staff.
