Elliott, a negro, was hanged her*
yesterday for assaulting Mrs. Caleb
Brown, near here about two months

several unsuccessful attempts were
made to lynch tho negro, but after a
promise of a speedy trial the citizen*

and the negro found guilty as charged.
The death sentence was pronounced
