Still Missing—Searching For Bodies
Is Now In Progress.
Glenn Falls. N. Y.. March 7.—By the
capslilng of a flat boat used aj a fer
ry boat at Spiers Falls today a num
bar of men were drowned.
How many lives were lost Is not yet
definitely known, but It is reported
that ten perished.
The scene of the accident is remote,
and but few details have as yet reach
ed this place. According to one re
port <10 men were on the boat The
current was very swift and a mass of
Ice and logs struck the craft In the
confusion the boat was tipped over,
throwing the occupants Into the river.
Search is now being made for the
missing, many of whom were swept
down the swift stream.
There were CO men In the boat In
the confusion one man Jumped out,
and In Jumping, seized the tackle rope.
This caused the boat to tip,, half the
men falling Into the river, and being
carried down by the swift current.
The latest estimates agree that ten
men were drowned.

Columbus, Ga., March 7.—Charles
Fee*more, a negro desperado and all
round thief, was killed by Marshall \W
C. Campbell, of Phonlx City, this morn
ing.
Passmore Is a member of Garfield
Thomas’s gang, and when the officer
attempted to arrest him he stoutly
resisted, and assaulted tbe officer, who
shot him down.
Garfield Thomas, one of tho leaders
of the gang, was arrested' after.a live
ly chaso In Phenlx City last night.
When first arretted he obeyed the of
ficer, but ms the latter was hitching
hit horse Thomas attempted to take
the officer's revolver away from. Be.
lng unsuccessful In this, the negro
rap. Citizens came to the assistance
of the marshall and the negro was
locked up. The officer knew of his
confederates, and to prevent them from
taldng him out of Jail, as they expect
ed they would try to do. Thomas was
chained securely to the prison cell.
The officers then went In search of
Thomas’ pals, with the result that
Charles Passmore, who was ono of
them, was killed this morning.
Thomas is wanted on the charge of
assault with Intent to murder In
Buena Vista.
Bud Moore, known to be another
member of the gang. Is still at large.
