Prom a business standpoint the trip

son feels quite sure. In fact, he has re-
cieved assurances to that effect, and
expects fuller details when the party
here have reported upon their trip to
the South.
Letters to this effect, Coi. Dodson
thinks, will be forthcoming in a very
short while.
The gentlemen coming here are
od to Amerlcus, hence the special trip
made' here this week.
That a favorable report to their asso
ciates will be made upon their return
home they have given every assurance,
and Amerlcus will doubtless be their

elect Smith ha* just made official an
nouncement of hia office force. Hon.
G. M. Hitch, now secretary to Senator
Bacon, will be warrant clerk. Mr.
Hitch, prior to going with Senator Ba
con, held the position under Governor
Terrell.
Josiah Carter will be the executive
secretary, and -J. B. Hoyle, private
secretary. Mt. Hoyle is originally
from Daw-ton, and has been Governor
Smith’s - secretary for the past two
years.
George Tumlln of Carroll county la
appointed keeper of thecapltol build'
ing and grounds.
With these appointments Governor
Smith practically Alls all the positions
of moment in the capital. Guards will
be named later. The position of keep
er of ground! and building' pays a
salary of $1,500 per annum.
With the session of assembly a week
off, reform legislation to be introduced
and passed is rapidly assuming shape.
Bills have been or are now being drat
ted to carry ou- every pledge of the
Macon platform. The full text of the
anti-paae and anti-lobbying bills has
already boon published
Other things advocated in the plat
form and for which measures will be
introduced will bo the majority plan
for the election of state officials, and
general law to carry not this plan will
lie drafted. A measure will also be
introduced providing for a constitu
tional amendment to increase the state
senate.
It la proposed to constitute every
county having a population of 20,000
into a separate senatorial district, and
no district shall contain more than
three counties.
The platform also advocated the

been requested to take up with the
Central ltailroad the matter of sched
ules on the Amencos-Columbua line,

train, recently taken off by the' com

failure of the Macon Board of Trade
and 300 merchant* of that city to hare
a train on the Eatonton line replaced
such effort by the Americas organiza

Supt. Halle replied to tho Macon body
that, owing to a decrease in revenues
from the train and an increase in the
cost of operating, it will be Impossible
to replace the train In service during
