Within a short time Americus will
stand in the lead of all cities of her
class in the state in the way of street
paving, as the work of putting down
vitrified brick on every street in tbe
business district will be pushed to com
pletion when once a beginning Is made.
Money wherewith to defray the cost
has been provided already, and only
the signal of tbe city council to begin
the several miles of street paving is
needed. There is nothing that speaks
in louder tones for a city than good
streets and sidewalks. Tbe city council
of Amsricus bas begun to appreciate
tbis fact and is doing everything possi
ble to make improvements along these
lines. The council cannot do too much
in this direction, as long as the matter
does not became burdensome to the
people who have to pay tbe price, and
the people should be willlng'to stand a
great deal in the way of taxation for
tho general good of tbe city, and inci
dentally tbeir own good.
