DRUGGISTS IN UVELY ENGOUNTER
Citizens who have lived in Americus
since 1810 can recall no previous sum
mer when June was filled with a, many
hot day, aa this one.
The rolling thunder yesterday was
i tinkling bell, to the sweatful cit
who for six weeks ba, swallowed dust
and prayed for rain.
The intenesiy hot weather during
May and June baa dried up gardens in
Americas, sod housekeepers Cannot
get many vegetables.
June is fieeting, yet Americus ha*
witnessed butfew marriages. Perhaps
those matrimonially inclined are wait-
log for settled weather.
Captain John A. Cobb is spending
three days at Indian Spring this week,
attending the annual meeting of judges
of the court of ordinary.
Take a look at Lamar street today,
with Its new bindings and improve-
ments, and contrast it with Umar
street of even a year ago.
Americus fans are promised more
good ball this week. The Tifton team,
one of the best In south Georgia, will
play bore among others.
The smell of burning cotton can al
most tfo detected in the fields about
Americas, a, even the little plant, nre
beginning to scorch now.
* Mr. J. W. Sheffield was down town
yesterday In bis roller chair, greeting
hi* friend*, for the first time since his
accident two months ago.
If anyone had ventured upon the
street* yesterday singing- "The Good
Old Summer Time” a sweatfnl public
wo lid have strung him up.
The Adams residence on Lamar
street is to be sold for division among
the heirs of Mr*. M. J. Adams. The
property Is a valuable one.
Americus is destined to exist through
the week without n ball game to en
liven the situation, only a few free
fights to vary the monotony.
The county chainganir is now re
crulted up to it* full strength. There
are forty-three zebras in the bunch, and
they are doing good work. too.
ltaln Is very badly needed, but there
Is no evidence of moisture > et. The
corn crop Is blistering, and. cotton is
showing the effect of the drought.
Dr. Davenport and Dr. Dodson Thus
Clashed.
A personal difficulty yesterday
morn log between Dr. D. P. Davenport
and Dr. J. G. Dodson occurred at the
Granborry building, soon to be occu-
pled by the Dodson Pharmacy. The
old building was, until recently, occu
pied by tho Davenport Co. and the
difficulty, It is understood, grew out of
the proposed removal of certain pipes
and fixtures. Dr. Davenport,It la said,
struck Dr. Dodson with a piece of iron
llplng. One blow upon tho head
cnocked Dr. Dodson to the ground,
blood flowing profusely from the
wound. He was In a dazed condition
when Mr. Kylander and others came to
bis assistance and carried him to the
store of the Rylander Shoe Co. where
his wonnda were dressed. Tbo affair
is deeply regretted by friend* of both
participants.
