No woman's happi
ness can be complete
without children; it
is her nature to love
and want them
as much so as it is
to love the beau-
~r . , , . tiful and pure.
The critical ordeal through which the expectant mother must pass,
however, is so fraught with dread, pain, suffering and danger, that the
very thought of it fills her with apprehension and horror. There is no
necessity for the reproduction of life to be either painful or dangerous.
The use of Mother’s Friend so prepares the system forthe coming event
that it is safely passed without any danger. This great and wonderful
remedy is always ap
plied externally, and
has carried thousands
of women through the
trying crisis without suffering. M M

It Is the bride’s secret where towers
tho enstlc In Brooklyn In which her
sweetheart languished. She Is a soci
ety girl of Maiden, and tho town had
tong looked forward to the wedding on
June 4 ns a social event. Five hundred
Invitations were sent out for the cere
mony In the Maplewood Methodist
Episcopal church, where her father,
ex-Aldcrman Fred II. Towns, Is assist
ant pnstor. <
Miss Towns received a telegram from
Brooklyn the morning of the 3d an
nouncing that her sweetheart,was seri
ously III and could not be moved for
aome time. The message was signed
“Doctor.” Tho social heart of Malden
almost stopped beating when each re
cipient of an Invitation to the wedding
was notified that It had t>oon postponed
Indefinitely.
Bride Her Own Champion,
Speculation ns to the cause centered
around Miss Towns’ fiance. He had
Seen Introduced to Malden ns Clifford
JL Sampson of Brooklyn. He had told
their friends that he was a physical in
structor In the Brooklyn Young Men’s
Christian association. Miss Towns
met him In New York two years ago,
and later he was a frequent visitor at
her home. The engagement of the
young couple was announced In Feb-
suary, and the parents were delighted
over theln daughter's choice.
In spite of tho somewhat mystifying
telegram from the Brooklyn physician
to the fact that a sub-contract for con
vict labor in which the price was *570
per annum for each able-bodied man,
was recently approved. If present
prosperous conditions continue, the
commission feels assured that when
the next lease Is made in April, 1909,
the State will get at least *450 a year
for it, convicts, which is double tho
present amount. In this evont the
state could use half of its convict force
In extending the Western and Atlantic
Railroad to the sea, and not impair Its
income from this source.

Americus Firm Makes a Purchase of

at 12 cts.-That is a Pro
fitable Deal.
An enterprising Americus cotton firm
has Just closed a deal with certain
farmers here whereby it purchases
twelve hundred bales of cotton, to bo
delivered in October. The price stipu
lated le 12 cents per pound, and as the
farmers and the firm are alike satisfied
there Is no kick coming. The firm is
I thus sure of 1200 bales at a given price,
white the formers who have tbu* sold
their crops in advance are dead certain
of getting a good price for it when
delivered, whether the market price be
10 or 15 cents. Twelve cents is a good
price for cotton, and while It may be
worth even more next October these
farmers who sell now have the satis
faction in the Interim of an assured
good price.
“THE NAME MAT BE VtCTITIOCS.”
Miss Towns’ love and faith were un-
