'Amerlcus money,", the certificates
issued by the clearing house associ

of the smaller towns In this section,
and everywhere the merchants and
people accept It as readily as they
would gold certificates.
Script which has been Issued In
the towns of the State are circulating
all around. Already some of the 'new
hills from other places In Georgia
have made their appearance In
Amerlcus. Some of them were In
evidence during the day.
Merchants have experienced some
inconvenience with the certificates in
their dealings with strangers In town.

Just passing through are sometimes
loath to accept them.
They are as good as gold, however,
with the local banks and ample se
curity behind them.
One instance was reported yester
day of an attempt to depreciate the
bills by a storekeeper In n village not
far from Amerlcus.
He wanted them bad enough, but at
the point of gouging.
An old negro who had sold cotton
in Americus offered the fellow a $5
certificate In payment for groceries
he had bought. The slick screw told
him he would only take the bill for
$4.50, and the Ignorant old darkey was
thus fleeced.
The banks will probably remember
him In future should accommodations
be wanted.
