Nightmare
No woman’s happi*
ness can be complete
without children; it
is her nature to love
and want them
asmuch so as it is
to love the beau*
„ tiful and pure.
The critical ordeal through which the expectant mother must pass,
however, is so fraught with dread, pain, suffering and danger, that the
very thought of it fills her with apprehension and horror. There is no
necessity for the reproduction of life to be either painful or dangerous.
The use of Mother’s Friend so prepares the system for the coming event
that it is safely passed without any danger. This great and wonderful
remedy is always ap* as mm _ _

Evidence of Danger Found
in Time.
When residents on Lee street, near
Hill, detected the strong odor of
escaping gas Sunday evening one
of thenj proceeded to Investigate, as
the odor was strongest In a residence
recently vacated. The fact was tele
phoned to the owner of the premises,
who found the house closed and sev
eral gas Jets opened, from which the
pungent explosive was pouring In
volumes. Immediately the Jets were
closed and the doors and windows
opened that the accumulated gas
might escape. Who it was who open
ed the Jets, and for what purpose, Is
not known, but It Is possible that
some undetected firebug or house
breaker might explain, could he only
be located.
Ryals Home is Burned Sun
day Morning.
The residence of Mr. James Ryals
on Barlow street, near Brannon ave
nue, was plundered and burned
2 o'clock Sunday morning by fire
bugs, who, after taking what they
wanted, applied the torch In the pan
try, near the kitchen.
Mr.* Ryals family was out of the
city at the time and all of their fur
niture and effects were lost, practical
ly, as they were not Insured.
The dwelling Is owned by Mrs. E.
Taylor, and Is insured.
Neighbors heard the cracking of
the flames', and falling timbers and
telephoned the alarm to headquarters,
the Are department responding quick
ly. Excellent work was done In
saving the greater portion of the
burning house, and those adjoining.
A half dozen dwellings there are
only a few feet removed from each
other, but by the splendid work Of
the firemen none of these caught
Even the greater part of the Ryals
residence was saved.
One of the neighbors stated that a
noise was distinctly heard in the
Ryals residence early in the night,
which bears out the theory that the
house was robbed before the torch
was applied. There Is no clue. of
course, to the bold Are fiends.

WILL DIVIDE THE GANG
ON ROADS FOR TIME
In Order to Put Them in
Condition.
The board of county commission
ers at their meeting Monday, the
first of the new year, decided upon a
temporary division of the county
chalngang Into flying squadrons,
which will go hastily over all roads
In the county and put any found out
of repair In safe condition. The
force of fifty convicts will thug be
divided for the time Into squads of
dozen or moq£, and Immediate repair
work made. The continuous rains
have washed the county roads In
places, and as heavy hauling of fertE
llzer will goon begin It is Imperative
that the roads will be placed in good
condition. The meeting on yesterday
was attended by the full board, and
the ofllcial proceedings will doubtless
be published In full- shortly as sug
gested by the grand jury in the
general presentments, although there
were few matters of any general In
terest discussed.

H. Y. Ferrell, veterinary surgeon,
living at 67 State street, Albany Ga.,
says: "Although I have never been
laid up by kidney complaint,. I have
suffered a great deal with a lame
and aching back, and have felt like
going to bed on that account often
enough. This dull, heavy pain was
with me for several years. The urine
was also very dark and Blugglsh, and
contained a thick sediment. I tried
all kinds of remedies, and used pres
criptions of my own, but without sue-
cess. Nothing seemed to take hold
until I procured Doan's Kidney Pills.
They were exactly/ suited to my
case. Since using the pills I have
not been bothered with those pains,

This Is to be a year of general and

where, the political pot will simmer.
Candidates will be as the leaves

All county officers are to be elected,
along with Judges and solicitors, and
these in themselves will constitute
a small army when the candidates
all get busy.
For the lineup will prove a very
formidable one.
City politics, too, will command at
tention later In the year, and the buz
zing of mqltltudlnouB aspirants will
enliven the listless days of summer.
A mayor, three aldermen and .city
clerk and treasurer will thus

The state and county elections will
demand attention first, and will prob-

ary. Members of the legislature will
be chbsen at the same time, and alto

heads and swept aside the arguments
of reason in a mad rush at the rail
roads and other corporations. In a
desire to regulate some things, they
went far beyond the proper limits
and through certain Adverse legisla
tion proceeded to do tne tearing down
act. They were warned by some of
the newspapers that the result would
be disastrous but would not heed the
warning. The day of settlement has
come.
It is one thing to tell the people
that four million dollars could be
saved by'reduction of freight rates
and quite another thing to effect the
saving of that sum. It was a good
plank from a demagogic . standpoint
on Which to ride Into office, bat one
that had no soundness in It. The
people who did most of the shouting
have found out the emptiness of the
promise.
The freight rates have been reduc
ed, and a few manufacturers have
pocketed the reductions. The people
have not been benefitted a copper.
There’s a valid reason for it, we’ve given this
reason before; we now give it again:
