THE AMERICUS WEEKLY TIMES-RECORDER. FRIDAY. FEBRUARY 21. 1908.
Amerlcus was the Mecca Mon
day of mill men and others who came
to bid upon the cotton bales, partly
burned or otherwise damaged. In the
recent compress fire here. Among
those bidding were buyers from Hous
ton, Texas, Birmingham, Atlanta,
Augusta. Macon, Athens and Colum
bus, while Amerlcus bidders were In
the held as well. There were about
192 of these damaged bales, and
for the round lot sealed bids In lump
sum were submitted. These bids were
opened at 12 o'clock, sharp, by Mr.
Pollock, representing the insurance
companies for whose account the cot
ton was sold, and the bid of Lesser
& Clark of Augusta, accepted. This
firm bid $3,775 for the round lot,
which was considered a very fair
price. The 192 bales will be shipped
to Augusta and the burned portions
of the bales picked over and the cot
ton thus made merchantable. The
removal of this cotton will leave noth
ing but the towering smokestack,
standing like a grim sentinel, to
mark the scene of the most disastrous
Are Amerlcus has ever witnessed.
We would like to impress upon you the importance of this
special selling event. Important because the different lines
are most complete, making selections easy and satisfactory.
Again important because every price on every item quoted is
lower than the same item can be bought at any other time of
the year. This is the replenishing time for your Linen press
es. We quote you a few representative lots:

BILL REQUIRES MAIL
BOX FOR RESIDENTS
Carriers in Free Delivery
Cities Delayed.
,, If :l bin which is pending before
1 nngress becomes a law, residents of
Amerlcus will have to provide mall
:l °xes at their doors for the city ear
ners to deposit In them letters and
Packages. The bill requires that ten
ants of all houses having free city
delivery must provide proper recep-
'acies for mail at their doors. Only
residences would be affected by the
‘• IW , stores and offices being served
as at present.
Under the present system, the post
mans whistle may not be promptly
answered, or the house may be tem
porarily deserted. This entails a
wait of several minutes -on the post-
?* n . Ie ‘her way. With a mall box at
nand, the rounds could e shortened
v «nr appreciably.
One of the arguments In favor of
the proposed law Is that the eight-
hour schedule under which carriers
work hardly gives time for making the
requisite number of rounds. The new
law would tend to restrict the number
of carriers In the larger cities, while
being in many waysjmore convenient,
both for the residents and for
carriers.
Dr. F. F. Reese, rector of Christ
church. Nashville, Tenn., w.13 yester
day elected as Bishop of the Diocese
of Georgia at the episcopal conven
tion In Augusta. Dr. Reese's name
was placed in nomination by Capt.
John A. Cobb, of Amerlcus. The new
ly-elected Bishop Is one of the fore
most rectors In the Southern states,
his charge at Nashville being one of
tbe richest and largest of Episcopal
churches In the South. He succeed
ed Rev. J. R. Winchester, w"hose
name was also favorably mentioned
In connection with the bishopric.
Seven months ago the Diocese of
Georgia was divided into the Diocese
of Atlanta and the Diocese of Geor
gia, and since that time Bishop Nel
son, who was In charge of the origi
nal Diocese of Georgia when it also
Included the Southern portion of the
State, has continued in charge. The
election of Dr. Reese as Bishop will
relieve Bishop Nelson of the double
duties which he has been performing.
It Is not known where the new Bish
op will make his home.

WHAT CAUSES INDIGESTION
To Be Cured, Weakness of Stomach
Muscles Must be Overcome.
The chief cause of Indigestion Is
weakness of the stomach muscles and
lack of gastric Juices.
By taking Ml-o-na stomach tablets
the stomach muscles will be stimulat
ed and strengthened and the flow of
gastric Juices will be Increased. Ml-
o-na does not do the stomach's work;
It makes the stomach strong enough to
do It, and In this way completely
cures the Weakness so there is no
further need of medicine.
No mater how severe a case of
stomach trouble you have Ml-o-na will
cure It by strengthening your diges
tive system so that both stomach
and bowels do their work as they
should.
Dodson's Pharmacy sells Mi-o-na
In 50-cent boxes nnd guarantees to
refund the money If the remedy does
not cure. 12-14-19
