The boys and glrU of the Americus
High School are looking forward with
great interest to the* contests that are
to be held at Hawkinsville in April,
when they will contest with the pu
pils of other schools of the Third Con
gressional District for prizes offered
in declamation, music, handicraft, es
say writing and track athletics.
This will be the first contest to be
held under the District High School
Association, recently organized. Supt.
Miller of the Americus schools, is
president and Supt. Polhiil, of Haw
kinsville is secretary of the Associa
tion.
The meeting will-be held on Fri
day, April 17. How many puplW yvlll
enter the contests from Americus is
not known. It is quite probable that
there will be competitive tests locally
to select representatives to bring back
prizes to Americus.
The following statement is made as
to the purposes of the High School
Association:
“The object of the association shall
be to promote the cause of education
through (he establishment and ade
quate maintenance and equipment of
public high schools in every county
as a necessity In any modern system
of education and an efficient measure
of linking the elementary public
schools with the colleges and unlver
slties and of Improving the scholar
ship of the rank and file bf public
school teachers and the intelligence
and efficiency of the entire citizenship
of the district.
"The teachers and officers 6f every
high school in the district together
with the county school commissioners
of the several counties composing the
district, will be invited to membership
in .he association
"Conference for the discussion of
high school problems will be held
from time to time."
SEASON OF HUNTING IS
COMING TO A CLOSE
Hunters Are Fast Depleting
the Birds.
Americus gunners are aware of the
fact that the season of quail shooting
is rapidly drawing to a close, and will
make the best of the three weeks re
maining. Thousands of partridges
and doves have been killed during the
season in south Georgia, and the
wholesale slaughter of doves in bait-,
ed fields continues, several “shoota”
being arranged for this week on farms
near Americus. At the present rate
of extermination partridges and doves
will soon be killed off entirely. A few
years ago these birds were plentiful
In the territory around Americus, but I
thousands have been killed every year
and they are now so scarce that the)
fear is generally expreseed' by the*
sportsmen that unless steps are taken
to put a curb on the zeal of hunters a
practical extinction of the favorite
game birds of Georgia will sooq re- .
suit, so far as this section is concern

ROBBERS ARE STILL IN
BUSINESS IN STATE
Safe blowers, evidently the same
gang that operated at De Soto, near
Americus, continue to make a noise
with dynamite over the State and
escape capture, as was the case here.
A few days ago there was a little
safe-blowing Job at Buena Vista,
while Friday there came the news
of a general explosion at Kestler, a
small town near Albany. The bur
glars dynamited three safes there
and secured about $1,000. Two hun
dred dollars were taken from the
safe of Haddock & Griffin: $500 from
Hightower & Son.; $200 in cash and
$50 in stamps from the postofflee.

Whiskey of Merit
T HAT is the only kind we ever distilled and
sold. That is why our whiskies sell over and
over to the customer who was satisfied with the
first order—and continues so—that is why we enjoy
the confidence of thousands.
Whiskey is either pure or something else. We
select all the gra l carefully; use $nly pure water;
age to full maturi v in our own warehouses, and in
sist that our whisi ies reach the customer in original
packages. This protects us-protects the customer-
safeguards our goods from invidious adulterations
by middlemen.
Our whiskies have no equal for use in the sick
room, being wholesome ana tonicy to weak stom
achs; they are the best to serve your friends, they
will appreciate their purity and enjoy their rich
mellow flavor. The natural vim and vigor of the

The readers of this paper will be
pleased to learn that there is at least
one dreaded disease that science has
been able to cure in all its stages, and
that is Catarrh. HalPs Catarrh Cure
is the only positive cure now known
to the medical fraternity. Catarrh
being a constitutional disease, re
quires a constitutional treatment.
Hall’s Catarrh Cure is taken internal
ly, acting directly upon the blood and
mucous surfaces of the system, there
by destroying the foundation by
building up the constitution and as
sisting nature in doing its work. The
proprietors have so much faith in its
curative powers that they offer One
