REVIVAL BEGINS
SUNDAY, JULY 26
A week from next Sunday night
revival services will he begun in a
tabernacle to l»e built on the vacant
lot opposite the M indsor hotel. The
services will 1>»- under the auspices of
the Business .Men's League and the
various pastors of the city. The evan
gelist W ill be Rev. Boh Jones, of Mont
gomery. who has a wide reputation as
<1 revivalist. ,,
Thy first service will be held on
Sunday night, July 26. The length of
the revival will be from two to four
weeks, and there will he a service
each night and probably one each af
ternoon. A singer will accompany
the revivalist, and a chorus will be
organized from Americus churches.
The arrangements are in charge of
a committee appointed by the Busi
ness Men’s League.
The tabernacle will be of a tempor-
arv nature, and will consist chiefly of
a roof about 50 by 60 feet. This will
be large enough to provide for the
day crowds, while at night seats will
be placed around the tabernacle, this
furnishing a cool location for the
audience. Work on ’the tabernacle
will be started next week.
The object of the revival is to re
new the spiritual life of the commun
ity, and to convert to ft Christian con
fession those who are outside the pale
of any church. The evangelist will
have the active support of the minis
ters of the city, and of the Christian
working. That It will be
success seems to be assured.
; cious scuppernong
I in rich clusters. For the wine-making
industry in Georgia has been brought
'to a sudden termination by tne
! adoption qf the state prohibition law,
1 a fact which the more strongly lm-
! presses itself as the harvest of the
i vineyards are at hand.
* While Georgia has never taken
any prominent stand among the wine
growing states, -there are se ^f:
large vineyards throughout the state
whose produce has. until this year,
been manufactured into domestic wine
which the state has permitted the
producer to dispose of without the re
quirement of paying a tax.
Now he is not only forbidden to
sell the product, but under the law
he cannot make it. He must dispose
of the grapes as they come from the
vines or make of them some product
which is non-intoxicating.
Some vineyard owners have ar
ranged to marke a large proportion of
the fruit, but there will yet be great
quantities of It which will go to
waste unless some other product can
be made of it.
The situation has led a number of
owners of vineyards to make inquiry
into the methods of manufacture and
preservation of unfermented grape
juice, which has come to be an Im
portant product.
It is sold now at practically everj
soda fountain in the country and Is
in frequent use by physicians ini the
treatment of certain complaints. That
there would he a ready sale for it,
there is little question, and the es
tablishment of this new Georgia in
dustry as the result of state prohibi
tion may be confidently looked for,
