Farm Loans
At 6 per cent, interest on desirable^ forms.
Bv far the greatest improvements
made at tire department headquarters
in recent years are now in progress
under direction of City Engineer Stal
lings and Chief McArthur, which not
only add to the utility of the building,
but will prove a model of convenient*
there as well.
The entire wood floor was thrown
out yesterday, and a solid foundation
of cement will be put there instead
insuring durability and better sani
tary conditions.
A portion of the headquarters was
already laid in cement, and the entire
lower floor will thus be improved
In addition to this, Engineer Stal
lings is making an even greater im
provement in cutting a double door
at the rear of the buildiug, through
which the trucks may he driven from
the street front or rear yard. For
years it has been necessary to “back*
the trucks into the station instead.
The door is supported by steel gird
ers, thus insuring the former strength
of the walls. Chief McArthur has
wanted this done for years and is de
lighted therewith.

DASH OF 200 MILES.
(Special to Times-Recorder.)
Atlanta, Ga., Xov. 13.—Dlsbrow, in
a Ranier Xo. 9, won the two-hundred
mile race for the Atlanta trophy and
$1,000 In gold; Robertson, in a Flat,
led all the way to the eighty-second
lap when his chain broke and he
dropped out for the time. Grinding
steadily away while faster cars drop
ped out from one cause or another,
Dlsbrow never lost a stroke In bis
steady gait around the course. Dis-
brow's time was 3 hours 53 minutes
and 48.33 seconds. An accident to
Robertson undoubtedly kept him from
breaking the world's record for the
distance. He was in a Flat and ran
second; Charles Basle, in a Renault,
ran tblrd; L. Basle, badly distanced,
was fourth.

FEW BALLS IN FIELDS
REMAIN TO BE PIGKED
Amerlcus warehousemen are not
rushed with dally receipt* of cotton
as heretofore, and while the bales will
cdntlnue coming this way until after
Christmas it is a fact that the crop lu
Sumter Is practically gathered and,
for the most part, sold. With the
best weather for cotton picking that
probably has been known In this sec
tion the season is practically over
here. The movement for a week has
been very light and It is estimated
that 95 per cent of the crop has been
brought in. A little of It Is being
held and will not be sold at the price
bringing here today, which Is 141-4
cents. Up to this date Amerlcus ware
houses have received nearly 39,000
hales "wagon cotton," the bales that
really count In a city's trade, and the
total will easily go over 30,000 or
31.000 by the end of December.
