Qday and Monday In Dooly county-
Ten thousand dollars loss was sus
tained In an early morning blaze yes
terday which destroyed the seed!
house, a large wooden building be
longing to the Planters' Oil Company,
together with Its contents ot machin
ery, hulls and cotton seed meal, sev
eral carloads of which was packed up
for shipment.
The blaze was discovered at 5:30
o’clock, and the large building was
well aflame ere the fire department
coulh reach the scene.
Fortunately there was no wind at
the time and by excellent work the
firemen confined the flames to the
seed house. Had the fire crozted
Church street a conflagration would
have been Inevitable. ' )
And In such event the loss might
have reached several hundred thous
and dollars. Instead of only 910,000.
Burning Cara Are Rescued.
By the time the department arrived
a switching engine from the Seaboard
yards had reached the scene and pull
ed away three or four freight care
loaded with meal, the care having
enught fire already. They were quick
ly extinguished with comparatively
little damage to contents..
Several streams were turned upon
the burning building, and after a hard
fight the firemen succeeded In master
ing the situation.
The work was well done, and the
department Is complimented upon
again handling a bad Are.

And a pound of scattered dynamite
cause# the trouble.
Last Friday, following the frost, this
f*fmer put a pound ot dynamite, to be
tiled In blasting stumps, out In the
■un to thaw. It thawed, or at least
he thawed It did.
Yosterday he observed his fat bens
and turkeys scratching at the spot
where he had placed the dynamite, and
then a horrible thought seized him.
The birds had really eaten the email
particles of the explosive, and each
carried a life Insurance policy under
her wing.
Hit one of those birds with a hatchet
and see It explode in a thousand
pieces? Not on his life.
He even fears that the deadly dyna
