What Can Do Done on a
Small Georgia Farm
Fertilized Entirely From
Cattle Kept on Place
.--Fine Lesson This.
Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 11.—“Any plant
er who will feed Ills cattle on cotton
seed, properly balanced, and fertilize
heavily with the trfanure gathered In
his barns can do what I have done,”
said Lorlng Brown, owner and pro
prietor of the famous Belmont Farm
sear Atlanta, as ho pointed with pride
to the six-acre Held on which this
year with two crops he lias made
15,790. This phenomenal record has
attracted the attention of the State
Department of Agriculture and caused
a personal visit of Capt. R. F. Wright,
Assistant Commissioner of Agricul
ture, who Is enthused over this won
derful crop.
It is believed that nowhere outside
of a truck farm has this record been
surpassed, aud it Isdoubtful If many
of these, with aa poor start, have done
as well. The little farm of thirty-six
acres Is located on the trolley line be
tween Atlanta and Marietta, near
Smyrna. Of this amount of land only
twenty acres are In use and only eight
under cultivation, which makes the
record all the more phenomenal.
The fame of Mr. Brown has Bpread

WINDSOR’S NEEDS
Mr. Council Has Building
Gone Over By Them.
Plans for the Improvement of the
Windsor hotel are still under way.
While awaiting their completion Mr.
1 .ee Council, the new owner of that,
handsome property, is having minor'
and necessary repairs made tothe
structure. Inside and out. The roof
| is being given the attention Its condi
tion requires, the painters and car
penters are at work, and numerous
small repairs rendered necessary by
former neglect are being attended to
as rapidly as tho workmen can go
through the building.
These are but the preliminary steps
to the great actual work of renova
tion and improvement that is being
planned. What was necessary first,
as Mr. Council expressed it, was to
keep tlie weather out and stop any de-
i terloration of the property. That ac-
' complished, the greater project of
! making the building a fine hotel with
in and without can be attended to.
! This week Mr. Council had two ex
perts here going over the hotel. They
were Mr. Eugene C. Wachendorffe of

BOND COMMISSION DID

The city has not yet disposed of the
$10,000 of bonds voted to meet Us
appropriirtlon to the Agricultural Col
lege.
At the meeting of Council two weeks
ago Alderman Allen sought Informa
tion as to why the bonds had not been
paid and the debt of $10,000 due the
banks taken up and the Interest cut
off.
Mr. Allen stated that he had been
informed that the bond commission
was willing to take the bonds at par,
and that all that was necessary was
to present the matter for the commis
sioners' consideration.
Alderman Allen appears, though, to
have been misinformed in this.
At the meeting in question Alder
man Eldrldge Btated that if this was
the case he was not aware of it, and , , , 0 . , .

templation will not be made known
until later.
Mr. Singleton, an electrical expert,
was also here this week, going over
which the contesting cars passed i.i
their triumphal tour.
Such was the gratifying information
received last night In a dispatch to the
Times-Recorder.
The cash price offered for the best
ten-mile stretch of “good roads" is
$250, but the distinction that Sumter
achieves is worth that sum an hun

The award has not yet been made
officially, hut It Is generally conceded
in Atlanta, among all the counties thus
contesting, that Sumter has the bunch , ..a. .— =—=

from his herd of fifty Jersey cows,
thirty of which are In constant use
and from which he sells weekly to Dr.

worth of cream. From this It Is seen
that Mr. Brown makes his dairy pay
him $5,200 a year, exclusive of the
calves, which bring from $50 to $160
each.

Last winter the manure from the
herd of cattle was placed upon this
six-acre patch. This spring it was
sowed In oats and raised 390 bushels,
which were sold at $1 a bushel. Heav-
report was made.
The names of all five members of
the bond commission were promptly
given as being of this opinion. The
commission, it seemed, was of one
mind.
“I am somewhat surprised,” said Al
derman Allen. "I certainly under
stood some of the commissioners to
say they would be willing to Invest
tho sinking fund money In these
bonds.”
Chairman Eldrldge of the Finance
Committee then stated that the com
mittee had sent out inquiries to a
number of bond purchasing houses
requesting offers on the issue of $10,-
000, and that the committee hoped to
have some replies to lay before Coun
cil at Its next meeting.
