Missionary and Aid Societies held a
lovely reception'Thursday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. R. P. Goodman.

guests. After several games and con-

tifully decorated dining room where
delightful refreshments were served.

De Soto, Dec. 1.—Air. George Bagley,
Jr., came down from Atlanta Wednes
day to siiend Thanksgiving with his
parents, Atr. and Mrs. George Bagley.
Mr. and Mra. Angus Barlow return
ed Sunday frem Glennwood, where
they apent several days pleasantly
with relatives.
Stewart Clark, a Zulu gunner, was
corralled by Deputy Sheriff Fuller
shortly before daylight yesterday as
he sprinted away from Sumter county
after having punctured the mortal
tire of Jordan Mann, an Induatrioua
old negro, who lived on a little farm
out near Flint river. '
Alann was shot down at his cane
mill by Clark, who Jived on another
farm and merely butted Into the caqe-
fest, uninvited, while out chasing rab
bits Monday.
The case appears one of wanton
killing, from the meagre reports made
of It here yesterday.
Jordan Mann was grinding cane at
his mill, as stated. As Gunner Stew
art came up Mann, negro-like, said
something to provoke n laugh at him.
For this Jest, It Is said, Stewart
knocked AInnn down with his gun aa,C

shooting him.
It was Just a crime like dozens of

ticket managers have not as yet an
nounced any meeting, but It is likely
that they, too, will have a mass meet
ing he fore the election Is pulled off.

among their irl.-mls yesterday. All
candidates and their warm friends are
expected to do considerable cam- •
