The skin is composed of two distinct layers. One
is known as the epidermis, or outer skin, which has no
fibres, and serves principally as a covering' to the body,
and a protection from outward dangers to the delicate
flesh beneath. The other layer is known as the derma,
or true skin, and is composed of elastic fibres, fat tissue,
glands, lymphatics, nerves, etc. The thousands of tiny
veins and arteries with which it is interlaced constantly
supply every fibre and tissue with healthful properties
from the circulation to keep the skin smooth and perfect.
This is changed, however, when the blood becomes
infected with humors, acids or impurities. Instead of
constantly supplying rich, nutritive properties to the
skin, the circulation deposits the acrid impurity with
which it is contaminated, into the sensitive fibres and
tissues. This causes irritation and inflammation, which splits or breaks

the thin outer cuticle, while the tissues beneath ulcerate and discharge upou
the surface in the form of Kezema, Salt Rheum, Tetter, etc. There is like
wise a dry form of skin diseases, such as Acnc, Psoriasis, etc. In these varie
ties the humor in the blood diseases and inflames the glands, hair follicles,
etc., causing them to swell and protrude
5.3.S. CURED HER.
Some tirao ntiro I was troubled
with a severo skin affection called
Acne. Small pimples would ap
pear on my face and neck which
would in time fester and become
inflamed. My complexion was
muddy and sallow and most un
sightly. I chanced to read about
S.S.S., and concluded to give it a
trial; the result was entirely sat
isfactory, my complexion soon
becoming clear, the pimples dis
appearing, and my skin became
sort and smooth. I cannot too
highly recommend S. S. S. to any
who are likewise afflicted.

to the outer surface. Pimples, rashes,
eruptions and like troubles, are all de
pendent on imperfect blood, and no one
can liave a good complexion, free from
humiliating blemishes, unless the skin
is kept healthy by good blood.
S.S.S. cures Skin Diseases of every
kind by neutralizing the acids and
removing the humors from the blood. ]
It cools the acid-heated circulation, ’
builds it up to normal strength, multi- j
plies its rich, nutritious corpuscles,
and adds to its purity in every way. I
Thfn the skin, instead of being irri
tated, inflamed and diseased by acrid
impurities or fiery humors, is nourished, soothed and softened by a cool-
ing, healthy stream of blood. S. SvS. is the greatest of all blood purifiers,
and therein lies its ability to cure skin diseases. Book on Skin Diseases and

From Americus to the Macon coun

good m lea In a northearsterly direc
tion, is tho splendid work entered up
on this week by Supt. ”, O. Chrls-
tlon, of the Sumter roads department,
and it will be pushed forward vig
orously to early completion.
Fifty onvicts will be making ttla red
lay fly along that route by Monday.
Quite recently Supt. Christian has
completed the Sumter road from Amer
icus to the Schley county line a dis-
tano of seven or eight miles, where
it connects with the Schley county
road to Ellaville.
This affords another good highway
of thirteen miles between that town
and Americus.
The Sumter forces have also finished
quite recently the extension of the
Friendship road towards the western
boundary of the county, and tho ze
bras will be moved <fom there tt
Americus next week.
This Will afford a force of forty or
fifty convicts on the new work Just
begun. There are many hills to be
cut down and deep fills made, while
four large concrete culverts will be
rcqyfred on the first four miles alone.
It will requ’re several weeks to build
this highway.
But it Is an Important line—tt*e old
stage road from Americus to Ogle
thorpe.

A M’oman’s Great Idea
is how to make herself attractive. But
without health It is hard for bar to be
lovely in face, form or temper. A
weak, sickly woman will be nervous
and irritable. Constipation and kid
ney poisons show in pimples, blotches,
skin eruptions and a wrecked com
plexion. But Electric Bitters always
prove a godsend to women who want
health, beauty and strength. They
regulate stomach, liver and kidneys,
purify the blood; give strong nerves
Ujrlght eyes, pure breath, smooth,
velvety skin, lovely complexion, good
health. Try them. 50c, at Eldrldge
