Bumter and discloses the fact that
both candidates bald well their for*
mer strength In the campaign just
ended.
Gov.-Elect Smith thus made a gain
I 'cf just a dozen votes.
The senatorial and legislative race
here aroused greatest interest, and
the splendid majority of 313 votes ac
corded Senator-Elect J. E. Shaepard
attested the esteem In which he- is
yield by his fellow citizens throughout
the county. <
Mr. Sheppard was detained in At
lanta by legislative duties, and only
spent a few days in the field here
prior to the election, urging his cause
before the people.
Mr. E. A. Nisbet, who led the ticket
for the lower house .was likewise

Gray, 409. Mr., Hornady thus getting
a good vote, though defeated.

while Congressman Dudley M. Hughes
received 1,266.
