HAVE YOU TAKEN
OUT A LICENSE
If Not Don’t flourish a
Pistol.
New Law Makes It Mis
demeanor to Even
Show One Unless You
Have a License.
Representative Sheppard calls at
tention to the fact that a law enacted
a* the last session of the leglslav.u e,
to which little public attentic'i baa
been called, makes it a misdemeanor
1-, Georgia for any one to carry a p.s-
.01 outside of his own premises,
wi tiUer concealed or not.
Heretofore It has been permissible
to carry a pistol so long as It was
T.oi concealed. This proviston fre
quently made it difficult to make cases
and secure convictions. Parties ge.-
ting into an altercation and produc
ing a pistol 'would swear that the pis
tol was carried exposed. For th.s
there was no penalty under the law
Now dt Is entirely different. An
one seen with a pistol outside of his
tome or store can be arrested and
punished for a misdemeanor, unleri
such party has a license to carry' an
exposed weapon.
Such a license must be secured from
the ordinary of the county and must
b e accompanied by a satisfactory bonj
for $100.
This hon'd will put It out of the Q^cs
tion for the army of undesirables to
carry pistols without being liable to
arrest and conviction if they are ever
seen with them.
Properly enforced, It Is believed the
new law will help to hasten the d«.r
when the army of pistol toters will he
greatly reduoed In numbers and th
frightful list of homicides be also cut
down to proportions that will not be
auoh a reflection upon the civilization
of the state.

Mr. Bake* wis drawn to Americ

of Trade. Like many others, Mr. Bakt r
had his attention drawn to this city
and county by the advertising done
by the Board of Trade. On August
15, he wrote to the secretory of the
Board of Trade as follows:
“Dear Sir: It has been my Inten
tion for some time past to change mv
location. I am a contractor, and it
seems, judging from your advertise
ment in The Tradesman, of Chatta
nooga, that Georgia must be my horn .-
Seeing your advertisement, I take th.s
method of gaining farther information
with regard to Americus and Sumter
county. Now, If you think a man up-
to-date in the contracting 'business,
not afraid to Invest a few thousand
dollars In a borne, could do any good
in your town, would you be s6 klnl
as to let me hear from you at once
and also send pamphlet of informa
tion you mentioned In your advertise
ment. Hoping to hear from you at at
early date, I am, Yours truly, C. L.
Dak' r."
A copy of the pamphlet was sent tc
Mr. Baker and other information about
the city. As to locating here, he Was
advised that the best thing would he
to come and study the situation him
self. Acting upon this he arrived in
the city yesterday, sought out the sec
retary of the Board of Trade, and was
present at the meeting of the Board
last night where he met those of Lie
members assembled.
Mr. Baker comes well recommended
