usual gayetles and festivities of the
Christmas season were fewer here this

Miss Berta Rustin, of Sparks, who
has been the attractive guest of Miss
Della McCrea during the holidays, re
turned home Monday.
Miss Annie Pennington, of Ander-
sonvllle, and Miss Mamie Lee Rooks,
of Leary, spent Friday with Misses
Emma and Elite Wiggins.
Mrs. T. G. Williams .had as her
guests for the holidays her father, Mr,
M. H. Miller and little niece, Alma

most enjoyable event of the past
week was the entertainment given by
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Webb. Games were
played for a while and then 'nog, cake
and fruit were served. Everybody
present enjoyed themselves thoroughly

Ellaville, Ga„ January 4.—Notable
among the new year's entertainments
was the elaborate dining of Mr. and
Mrs. Homer Collins at their handsome
homelast Sunday. On this occasion
they Invited to partake of their hospi
tality a congenial company of rela
tives and friends who thoroughly en
joyed the fine dinner set before them.
Mrs. Collins fully sustained .her

Dr. B. L. Bridges’ annual reception’
occurred last Thursday, evening, and
was most successful .In every detail.
The color scheme, green and red, was
carried out In all the decorations and
In the refreshments. The table had

of red roses, surmounted .with green
vines.
A delicious salad course was served.
Mrs. H. F. Dixon gave a delightful
tea Thursday evening, complimentary
to Mrs. H. C. Perry, of Shady Dale,
and Mrs. A. R. Lewis, of Braxton,
who were the Yuletlde guests of Mrs.
H. J. Williams. Mrs. Dixon is an Ideal
hostess and a rare treat It is to share
her hospitality.

Preston, Ga., Jan. 4.—It was with
sincere regret that the many friends
of Mr. C. C. Brooks, fo ra number of
years our faithful Sunday school sup
erintendent, received the news of res
ignation, he and hts family having al
ready moved to Columbus.
Mrs. W. E. Jenkins entertained a few
of her friends quite pleasantly at sup
per last Wednesday night. -Among
those Invited were. Misses Alla and
Jewel Kidd, Eva Welch, Willie Tullls,
Florence Stapleton, and Messrs. Mob
ley, Terry, Tullls and Col. J. R. Luns
ford.
Mrs. Roy Fussell spent several days
here last week with her parents, Mr.
and. Mrs. .T. J. Welch. On Saturday
Mr. and Mrs. Fussell left for IAuvala,
where they will reside.
Mrs. S. C. Jenkins has returned to
her home In Columbus, after a. pleas
ant visit of several days at the home

evening Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Oliver en
tertained at an elegant dinner at their
handsome home. The parlors and
dinning roomjvere bright with Christ
mas decorations. Covers were laid
for 30 guests. Quite a number of out-
of-town guests were present.
Mrs. E. Timmerman entertained the
Embroidery Club Saturday In a most
delightful manner. Quite a number of
the members were present. Delicious
refreshments were served during the

mas passed off quietly and everybody
seemed to enjoy themselves. The

Ellaville, Ga., January 4.—Last
night at about eight o’clock V^;"|ewt
Eason was shot by Dawson, l I 4
employed at the depot here, anu -
wound proved fatal, Mr. Eason dying
tonight at 9 o'clock. The shooting
was the outcome of a difficulty be
tween the two men, the facts of
which hare not been ascertained. The
negro who did the shooting was taken
out of the Jail here this afternoon and
carried to Columbus for safekeeping
by Deputy Sheriff Livingstone, as mob
violence was fearedr
Mr. -Eason was a brother of Mr.
Robert Eason, a prominent cotton
buyer here, and leaves a wife and
three small children'to mourn his
loss. ,
