many Christmas dinings none have
been more enjoyed than that of Mr.
and Mrs. John Cheney at their lovely
home on College street on Mondav

Mrs J. C. Rainy entertained a num
ber of relatives on Sunday and the
family reunion was very much enjoy,

partaken of by all present

Plains, Ga, December 28.—Sunday
evening at the Baptist church the
members of the B. Y. P. U. held the
closest attention of the large congre
gation with a well selected and unus
ually well rendered program, after
which a collection was taken to help
defray the expenses of a native
missionary In Japan. The program
was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Miss Agnes Thomas was the cordial
hoetesa at a lovely dinner Tuesday.
Covers were laid for nineteen, at the
prettily appointed table which had as
Its centerpiece a cut glass vase of
beautiful red carnations. The guests
included Miss Thomas' young lady
friends.
Miss Ophle Markette entertained the
younger set very delightfully Tuesday
afternoon with a candy pulling About

At the last meeting of the Board
of Trade a special committee compos
ed of Mesa 8blver, Josey, Cunningham
and Gamble was appointed to appear
before the county commissioners end
the city council end request a contri
bution ot 160, to be used solely for
the purpose ot advertising Americas
and Sumter county.
Now that the holidays are over and
business has returned to Its normal
routine the committee In question will
perform this duty and appear before
the city and county governing bodies
at their next meetings
The city council meets on next
Wednesday night, and the committee
will then present It* request The
county commissioners are scheduled
to meet on Monday, but It Is under
stood that reasons exist that will re
sult In a postponement of the meet
ing until Wednesday, In all likelihood.
But lu any event, the committee will
present Its appeal whenever the com
missioners do gather for the transac
tion of business
The Board ot Trade desires to ex
tend lu advertising program In va
rious agricultural papers and the
(100 obtained In this way could be
utilised very effectively.

for a county fair at (Amerlcus next
fall. Is still at work getting togethir
to assist In determining whether
there shall be n fair and the lines on
which It shall be held.
The recent successful fair of Ter
rell county, held at Dawson, was man
aged by the ladles there, and nett.-d
them n considerable sum for public
purposes. Tho ladles of the Amerlcus
Hospital Association, haying this <11
mind, may make an effort to secure
Ibe management of tbeliumter County
Fair, la all or some ot Its depart
ments.
This matter has been under consid
eration by tho ladles and they hav#
considering the best way of
placing themselves lit communication
with those who managed the Terrell
fair. It Is probable that at the next
meeting of tho (Board of Trade the
ladles will mako a request that th--y
bo allowed to take a hand In the fair
matter. This may bo done either
through a communication or by a com
mittee calling on Sie board.
Prof. Cunningham may be In position
to make a report at the meeting of the
board next week.
