long strides of advancement in
the past few years, and no doubt
it will continue to go forward,
but some establishment of this
kind would greatly enhance its
growth and development.

Wonder if the Soutnern
Cotton Association will let the
decision of the executive com¬
mittee stand, and let Richard
Cheatham retain his office as
Secretary of the Association. If
a man is guilty of speculating in
cotton futures—and he confessed
that lie has done so—it seems to
the Advocate-Democrat that he
should have enough respect for
the Association and the people it
represents to vacate his position.
If he didn’t have that, the execu¬
tive committee should have had
the interests of the people at
heart enough to insist on his res¬
ignation. But no, they declared
that he should keep his high and
important office, but any officer
of the Association who shall
henceforth be guilty of such
treachery should be competl ed - G

expense of those who gave him
the office ought to be removed
forthwith and at once.
