Hunt Battle, a festive colored gent,
was arrested and brought to town Mon
day. charged with kidnapping one ot his
neighbor’s daughters. He will have a
hearing at the court house Saturday.
Mrs. Eliza Reid, an aged cititizen of
this county and a most estimable lady,
relict of the late Columbus Reid, died
last Sunday night of measles, at her res
idence three miles Southeast of Ellaville.
In mentioning the amount of cotton
seed shipped this season by Messrs. Mur
ray – Williams it should have been one
hundred and eighty eight thousand and
thirtyfour pounds, or nearly six thous
and bushels.
We are glad to learn that the Ellaville
High School is on the increase this week.
A good local school is an
ornament as well as necessity in every
community and every citizen should feel
a pride in keeping it up.
The bridge contractors were to com
mence yesterday to tear away the old
bridge at ttie lower turnpike on Buck
Creek, to build the new, We are re

came over on a brief visit Sunday.
Mr. J. B. Williamson spent Monday
and Tuesday in Columbus on business.

Rev. D. J. Apperson of Poindexter,

Mi. Ruberson, one of Americus’ build
ers and contractors, was in town Sunday.
Mr. H. C. Arrington of Sumter county
was in town the first of this week visit
ing his sons.
Mr. Olin Dixon of Americus. spent
Sunday with friends and relatives in
Ellaville.
Misses Mattie Whigham and Willie

Misses Mitch Bolton and Ella Cameron
contemplate leaving to-day for their
homes in Americus. Miss Jessie Pea
cock will accompany them.
Mr. C. A. Marshall was in town yes
terday circulating among his old friends.
He has resigned his position in Buena
Vista and thinks of accepting an offer in
Alabama.
Mr. John Jackson of Americus was in
town this week. He came up Sunday,
we presume, on important business of
his own and stayed over Monday to soiic
it orders for the old reliable grocery
house of H. D. Watts.
Prof. Merritt was among his Ellaville
friends Saturday. He has closed his
school at Richland and accepted a grad
ed school at Zebu Ion to open in January.
The enteevening time he is putting in
profitably at surveying.

ing Prof. Cole at the Ellaville High
School, left Tuesday for her home at
Union Springs. Ala. Miss Bass, the Mu
sic Teacher, wifi take her classes, we
learn, through the remaindt r of this
term and she will be absent until the be
gining of the January term. Miss Law
has made many warm friends here, who
will he glad to welcome her back again

Mr. Peacock has closed a contract
with. Mr. J. L. Skinner of Columbus for
building his new hotel and work will
begin this week. The failure of the
first parties to come to time has delayed
the work so much that it is hardly prob
able that [the hotel will he ready for
opening before the present season is past
but it will come in right for Florida hus
iness next summer, There are thou
sands of Floridians who go Northward
every summer, Many of them go to
the fashionable watering places of the
North and others to the mountains of
North Georgia and adjoining States. To
families seeking only a few months
outing in a healthy climate there is no
better place than Ellaville. They will
find it healthful pleasant and econoin
ical to come here.
