Mrs. M. L. Myrick. the brilliant
little woman who so ably edits the
Times-Recorder, has our thanks for
courtesies in connection with the
Christinal Carnival to be held in
Amcricus next week. It promises
to be the biggest and best show of
its kind ever held in (ieorgia.
The speech of Senator Clay on
the ship subsidy bill in the Senate
last week has attracted much
favorable comment for our junior
Senator. A gentleman who heard
the speech and heard the criticisms
of it in Washington pronounces it
by odds the best thing of the pres
ent session. It was full of the meat
of care preparation and running
over with good democratic doc
trine—the interests of the common
people—and proved quite a thorn
in the flesh for Hanna and bis re
publican majority, commanding
the attention of both senate and
galleries throughout, and showing
up more clearly and forcibly than
anything before the great wrongs
concealed in the bill. The Senator
is a hard worker and a careful
looker-after the interests of his
people. Georgia is to be congratu
lated on having his services in
these days of corporate control and
legislation.
AS WE SEE IT:
The Macon Telegraph suggests
iti a recent issue that the democrats
of the South reorganize themselves
into a new party and act independ
ently in future, and go in the elec
torial college free to trade with
whichever side offers us best terms.
The objections are apparent.
1. To send our delegates pla
carded for sale to the highest bid
der would never do.
2. If we should send delegates
that way the contingency under
which we could trade would not
arise probably more than once in
twenty years.
3. Withdrawing from Northern
democracy would leave us no mi
nority party to kill oft' bad legisla
tion against the country, or force
bills and vicious legislation against
ourselves.
4. It would cause us to desert
the Northern democracy which has
been true to us in congress. The
South cannot find fault with
votes of democrats in congress
from the North. They have been
with the South. Such conduct
would ruin the democratic party in
the North, which has had to fight
for life and existence since the
war.

MURRAY MUSINGS.
I haven’t had anything to say in
the paper for some time now, and
there has been no big fuss kicked
up about it by any one that I know
of. Will say by request of a friend
that is to leave our settlement in a
few days to make worth county
her home in the future and by ask
ing your permission also for a little
space, I will say our community is
very badly stirred up over losing
some of its best citizens, G. A.
Hill and wife, W. II. Payne and
w ife, R. H. Bridges and family
are all to leave for Worth county
in a few days. While they are all
our kinsmen and good friends and
neighbors also. We regret very
much to give them up, but what is
our loss in that way is somebody
else’s gain. Will suy we all feel
like their places will be hard to
fill. Also several other good fami
lies have left from around here, all
good people. We hope good neigh
bors will fill all their place. Sever
al friends and neighbors spent the
day at the hospitable home of W.
H. Payne on last Sunday as they
said for the last time that they
would meet at their home. Among
them was Mrs. J. T. Holt, and
Mrs. Ella Patton, of Schley, as
they passed by I put on my best
bsst necktie and humbled myse
down in the foot of their buggy
and went too, and who could
blame me. V\ ill say J m . conclusion , .
there is a large force of hands mov
ing the store house formerly owned
by Mr. J. T. Collins down to the
X soads to be occupied by James
Kelly. Will have it in place and
ready for business in a tew days.
All will be glad to welcome Mr.
Kelley and family at the X roads.
J. B. Brewer, of Stewart’s Mill,

The health of our community
was never better, no sickness at all
for which we all feel thankful.

How to Cure Croup.
Mr. R. Gray, who lives near

Among the tens of thousands who
have used Chamberlain’s Cough

one of the most prominent retail

of this, says: “We recommend

The average man can call his
wife “Say !’’ all week if he will
only call her “dear” once before
her minister on Sunday.
A woman uses up the best part
of her life trying 1o get into society
and the rest of it trying to keep
other people out.
What an exquisitely beautiful
thing maternity is! Did you, ever
see a woman pretend to bite a
piece out of a baby’s foot?
A woman never believes more
than half of what a man says, but
it make a lot of difference whether
its the first half or the last half.
Two hours after a funeral there
isn’t a woman in town who can’t
tell you what each of the floral
emblems cost, if it cost a cent.
Whenever a girl bets about any
thing with a man she always tries
to act like she was afraid he was
going to propose to bet a kiss or
something.
Heaven’s latch string is always
hanging out, but some people’s
souls will be so small they will
have to take along a stick with a
bent pin in it to pull it. .
Probably the angels have always
wondered why the first thing every
woman asks after she gets there is
where is the nearest spot that she
can sec the other place-*from.
