Vandei-griff, the young man who
at the last term of our court was
found guilty of passing forged or¬
ders and who was sentenced to
the penitentiary for two* years,
was carried away last Saturday.
Last week a snake of unkdown
variety was killed at the bar room.
Quite an uncommon thing-, some
might think, but this one was not
of the variety that get in men's
boots— a\ least none of our men
of experience seemed to bo able
to classify it.
Mr. Tate, wife of Hon. Steve
Tate, is very low. She has been
in poo; health for ab.mt a year and
has lately becomp worse. Mrs.
Tate is a most estimable Christian
lady and lier many friends gredtly
sympatize with her in her present
sickness.
A petjtition has been circulated
and signed very liberally asking
the powers that be to establish a
Postoffice at Harmony Mills in
this county. We hope that this
office will be established at once.
It would add greatly to the con¬
venience of a large number of peo¬
ple who live in that vicinity.

Elizabeth Fool, wife of Brother
W. R. Pool, departed this -life
April 27, 1889. She had been a
professor qf religion for 17 years,
but had never attached herself to
the Church; yet she left the bright
evidence of a happy exchange of
her condition. She had been af¬
flicted for years with bronchitis
'which terminated in consumption,
soon taking her from time, She
left an affectionate husband (and
four children to mourn her depart¬
ure. We would say to them, Weep
not for her as for those having no
hope, knowing that your loss is

listening he placed a gopd sized

of the mountain. We climbed the
tree and found the rock nearly out
of sight in the tree, where it had
quietly lain .for 25 years, We
chipped off a small piece as a me¬
mento of the dark days of ’64, and
the brighter clays O' ’89.
