September 19, 1901, the day on
which President McKinley was
lowored into the tomb, will he
known in American history as the
great, national day of mourning.
It is remarkable coincidence that
September 19th was the ai mi versa
-ry of the death of President Gar
field another son of Ohio, who died
41 4 t 1
twenty , years ago from the woumi
inflicted by the assassin Guitean.
—-Dawsonville Advertiser.
A movement is on foot t*» build
a monument in Atlanta to tlie
memory of President McKinley.
Already a fund ot over seven thou
sand dollars has been raised. Any
one desiring to cot.tribute to this
fund can send their money to the
Atlanta Journal or leave at the
Progress office and it. will be turiV
etl over to the proper parties.
The Courier-Sentinel has this to
say of The Georgia Baptist pub
lished in Marietta: Brother Bart
lett says some of his readers eoiu
plain because he has been com
polled to reduce the size of his
paper for a few weeks, and we
observo that in its present shape
it is worth a dollar a year. Yes,
sometimes a single article in his
paper is worth the dollar. It is
and is doing a good work right
along in advance guard of the
hosts for the right. We hope it
will win and be in on time at the
final round up.
An old bachelor bought a pair
of Socks and found attached to one
of them a slip of paper with these
words; “I am a lady of 20 and
would like to correspond with an
old bachelor with a view of matri
mony’.” Name and address were
given. The bachelor wrote, and in
a few days got his letter;
“Mamma was married 20 years
ago. The merchant you bought
those socks from evidently did not
advertise, he would have sold them
long ago Mamma handed me your
letter and said possibly I might
suit you. I am 18 years old. —Ex.

Aa soon as the Burlington ex
